Yes, We need Malls!
by puliyadi rajamurthy on Apr 24, 2013 08:54 PM

Very nice to see the Indian Malls. Here in Dubai and Abudhabi also has got lots of Big malls. Mostly malls are very cute and well Architecture and Interior design oriented ones. Now I am also very happy in engaging in a Construction of Yas Mall near Ferrari world, Abudhabi. But onething we can understand that we become addict to Mall culture like smoking. Manytime, I realise that it is very freedemic and pleasant one in selecting our needs right from small to high priced goods that too all are the genuines and branded. There is no place for duplicates.

Lulu is the biggest
by Arun on Apr 24, 2013 07:13 PM

For Malls the term biggest or largest denotes space available for leasing or renting out... Its called Gross Leasable Area or GLA, which indicates the size status of malls.........

Lulu Cochin Mall has a GLA of 1.7 Million Sqft. The total structure is 2.5 Million Sqft which includes hotel, parking, amusement park etc.... Only 1.7 Million Sq Ft is Lulu's total GLA...

Phoenix Market City Mumbai with 1.32 Million Sq Ft as GLA.... Phoenix Mumbai has a super-built-up area of 4.3 Million Sqft... But the actual Mall is only 1.32 Million

No comparison to US
by Abhijit on Apr 24, 2013 05:50 PM  | Hide replies

In very few cities of US you can see multistory malls. Otherwise the malls are spread over big area and hardly 2 or 3 storied. But you can find ample parking, less crowd, many entertainment spots, good security, very very good food courts there.

really? So what? You have seen nothing buddy, US is no more the place where biggest / tallest things happen. US malls are nothing compared to Dubai Mall, for eg.

No doubt they are hotspots
by Siddhu ism on Apr 24, 2013 02:45 PM  | Hide replies

But are these shopping hotspots, the answer is a big no, atleast in India. Except a few visitor friendly and well architected malls, what most of the mall tend to result is
1. Make the visitor to walk around in vain searching for what he or she is looking to buy
2. Divert the attention to jazzy things through advertisements thereby making the visitor to spend unintentionally
3. Once being realised a watchful customer tend to spend with caution in such malls

1st Point - True - A point malls should consider
2nd Point - Kudos to Ad Agencies - The purpose of doing business that visitors Buy.
3rd Point - This is called experience.

Its called consumerism and materialism, shopping malls are just rat traps. Indian rats think that it is a cool place to hang around, without spending anything. People who spent money on these traps, desperately want the rats to fall into their trap. Nothing new about all these.
