FDI
by Bhagwan on Sep 23, 2012 02:33 PM

When FDI is a such panacea then I want FDI into the corruption infected congress party and UPA with full controlling and negotiating powers so that people like MMS, Montek and Chidambaram get eliminated and we get the progress similar to the US or European countries

Why not FDI in each and everything?
by Rajendra Nayak on Sep 23, 2012 11:49 AM

There are pros and cons of FDI. Since we have plunged into allowing FDI why not in all?
Let Saudi Arabia sell Diesel and Petrol directly so that the prices will come down to 20 to 30 rupees a litre. No balance of payment problem since they are selling there at a very cheap rate. Even if imported it will be cheap.
The PSU in oil will stop crying.
Allow FDI in education so that we will get Nobel Prizes and all Universities can be shut down which are fit for nothing.
Every field like Defence, Health, Infrastructure can be outsourced so that we can be prosperous and have 10 to 15% economic growth as many economists and politicians forecast.
Why wait, do it by 31st December 2012 so that we can have a prosperous 2013.
A government which has less than 40% of the popular votes voted in 2009 election does not want to take in confidence at least those who have voted them to power.
Indians have too much of money but locked at places known to themselves. They are not interested in investing and I do not understand as to why an outsider is interested? The middlemen jack up the prices they say, but what about the Horticulture co-operative societies who have retail outlets? There also the prices are high without any middlemen.
The PM and the FM have to hold an enquiry as to why the essential commodity prices are high. Why wheat is allowed to rot and if FDI purchase and export from India who will stop them because the MOU will include those commodities which are cheap in India for export.

WELCOME DECISION !
by Indian on Sep 18, 2012 02:51 PM

It is a welcome decision from the government to allow FDI in retail. It will benefit the farmers, the producers and the consumers. The consumers will get quality goods at cheaper prices and the producers will get better prices for their products due to absence of middlemen.

We have long suffered less-weighing, hefty prices and adulteration by the Indian market middlemen and retailers. This system needs to be replaced with a batter system that FDI in retail would bring.

another gimmick by UPA
by brian crasto on Sep 18, 2012 10:53 AM

FDI in retail and airline sector is just an eyewash. There is nothing great about the reforms. This is just to bail out the airline sector and retail sector. The promoters just want to dump their holding or stocks on some unsuspecting foreigners. In fact they should have brought FDI in infrastructure and health sectors where it needs a boost

SELF SUFFICIENT INDIA, NO DEPENDENCY ON FOREIGN MONEY
by arun sharma on Sep 18, 2012 10:40 AM

BY introducing commercial agriculture by farmer our economy will grow and become stronger. FDI will work like cartelsation in CEMENT industry when price per bag cement was incresed by Rs. 80/- per bag and giving commission of Rs. 50/- per to smallest dealer. It seems INDIGO business is coming as it happened in pre independance of INDIA.

Good for the masses
by paper india on Sep 18, 2012 10:20 AM  | Hide replies

At least now the masses will not be shortchanged....they will get a kilo when they for it and not 900gms, the dal and rice will come minus the stone chips, the expiry dates would not be overwritten or concealed, and the consumables would not have been stored in rat infested or damp dark stores prior to their arrival on the shelf. And not to forget the promotions and offers which will allow the consumer to look for bargains.

Do not be shortsighted. For this corrupt practise working at mass scale has to removed. After independance in 1947, we were getting dal without stones by the same Indian. There was no foreigner to do quality control. Problem of mismamagement is with us at top level

That it would take away India' financial independence (if it was still there) does not seem to be of any consequence.

Need for level playing field for indian companies
by sharad agarwal on Sep 18, 2012 09:24 AM  | Hide replies

The biggest advantage of FDI in retail sector that there would be initial flow of money to India & they (means MNC retailer ) would bring latest technology in storage , transportation & food processing segment . There would be overall improvement .

But major disadvantage is that imbalance between import & export would increase . The India would suffer in the same manner when East India Company started business in our country . Initially everyone welcomed , but later on they overpowered whole country . India is the one country where our enterprises are facing heavy tax regime whereas China is having lowest taxes . It is therefore in China , FDI has proved a boon for them .

Instead of the FDI we must improve our own companies so that they become global leaders . Reduce ED & all kind of taxes , reduce power tariff to enable Indian companies to outsmart China. To make India a Global hub , give incentive to R&D . Reduce government expenditure .

This is too much of a naivete to think that allowing FDI in retail means East India coming back into India ! This is nothing but distortion of the reality. East India came with army, guns and captured territories, when the India was not India but hundreds of small states. They were able to dictate terms due to their military powers and not because we traded with the foreigners. The history tells us that India had business trading with many countries even before the British came to India & was instrumental in India's prosperity at that time.

We already have so many MNCs working in India in various fields like Manufacturing, Banking, Trading etc. ... they have not acted as East India Company. The why FDI in retail is being tauted as one ?

Let's stop spreading rumours. It always boomrangs. We can't fool all the people all the time.

These apprehensions are not without reason. War in those days was only with guns. But, now it is also economic. It is quite possible that FDI was thrust on India by means that are suspect.

Take the chill pill ! If you think India is doomed, shift to Pakistan, Peru, Samoa, Papua or Liberia.
