This is shameful.
by mohammad basit on Oct 26, 2012 09:38 PM

Rajat Gupta is a white collar criminal , he has brought shame and disgrace upon himself. How can anybody sympathize with him. Imagine the families who have suffered financially due to his acts or the individuals who will face prejudice and bias for being Indian( because people identify him as an Indian national)
Shame on him and shame on people supporting him.
If at all it is a moment of crisis it is for the family members of rajat gupta, at most i feel sorry for what they are going through can extend my sympathy to them.

What an Irony
by OBC MAN on Oct 26, 2012 01:48 PM  | Hide replies

A guy with the 't' missing was given a completely different treatment and the discussion boards were filled with bad-mouths against him.

Now, Rajat does a similar thing and would have earnt the same amount what the guy with 't' missing earnt. All the people are rallying behind him. What a neutral society we have. Is it because he is an IITan, you guys support or is there some other reason?

And, because of this comment, I am not saying Rajat invented insider trading. It has, is and always be there. He being exposed means he got some of the dealings fully for him and not paying the right persons.

I am very much aware that Wall Street is the mother of all frauds and scams on this planet.

IITians need to grow up
by Bigb tripathi on Oct 26, 2012 11:39 AM  | Hide replies

Every country, race, cast, creed, religion, institution have good and bad people. Same people also have good and bad behaviors. As long as Rajat was doing fine, he was getting money and respect. Now that he has done wrong, he has to take the punishment. IITians should understand that. They should be man enough and accept the real world as it is in stead of living in denial and being crybabies. By supporting him like crazy, they are loosing the respect they had gained over the years.

they have started a signature campaign and very soon would be approaching US President Mr. Barack Obama for a pardon, and I hope the President pardons him...
Also our govt can request the US President to consider a pardon.

Let us appreciate the American judiciary which gives quich judgements.Rajat got what he deserved.I am surprised at the way the Indian Corporate bosses are expressing their views. In India, insider trading is widespread and it is common knowledge. But we have sleeping watchdogs.Have you come across a single person in India sent to jail for Insider trading? If the US standards were applied here, half our businessmen/industrialists would be in jail.

I dont agree with this.

"If the US standards were applied here, half our businessmen/industrialists would be in jail."

If the US were strict, there would be no Wall Street and there would have been no housing and other bubbles in the economy. They would have had a stabler society than now.

crazy IITans
by ar on Oct 26, 2012 10:58 AM  | Hide replies

These IIT fellows have gone crazy. why should gupta be pardoned? He has committed a sin that has resulted in losses to many people. He was educated, knowledgable and responsible when he committed the sin. He must then get maxinum punishment. Why on earth he should be spared? Just because he is an IITan? Just because he is their friend? In that case every criminal should also be spared. Law is law and crime is crime. These basic rules should be the same for all. You may feel sorry or sad but that is another matter, and you are entitled to feel how you like.

Sympathy?
by Manoj Gupta on Oct 26, 2012 10:44 AM  | Hide replies

All those pleading for lenient punishment for Rajat Gupta must realise that criminal justice system does not work on netting effect. One cannot be condoned for murder just because he saved a life. A crime has to be seen in isolation and justice should be delivered.

What I appreciated most in this case was the swiftness and severeness with which the case was pursued and judgment delivered. Contrast this with the Indian justice system where the system is exploited by the guilty to mock the victims. And the entire justice system goes looking for a dead body in a white-collar crime.

why feel sad?
by supandi supandi on Oct 26, 2012 10:11 AM  | Hide replies

why sympathize with someone for his wrongdoing? Being at helm of such reputed institution, he should have shown better judgement. There is no need to be forgiving. Let him serve the term and we\\\'ll welcome him back with open arms.
