There is a dearth of good jobs in India. Good education does not mean good jobs.

This is UTTER SNOBBISHNESS
by Ujwala Kulkarni on Oct 16, 2012 03:54 AM

Training in management studies doesn't make good managers / businessmen. There are far too many things in day-to-day management that can't be taught in a B-school. Some things are inherent in a person, some are learnt by running family businesses or from life and others through experience in your career. Formal management training only defines a scientific approach for carrying out many of the business activities. Although sharpness, good communication skills and pleasing personality are desirable in a manager, one wonders whether rigorous selection through national level competitive exams and building much hyped institutions is the solution to the problem of finding and grooming good managers. Unfortunately, India looks to USA for everything without even wanting to realize that both the Indian society and business environment in India are far far different from those in US. The tragedy here is that marks and performance in entrance exams and other selection procedures determine entry to professional lines like management, Engg and Medicine rather than an individual's liking, aptitude and ability.

Everyone is employable

People who make these statements are usually arrogant, smug oldies who have worked in the same job for dnkys years, making these statements to feel good about their boring lives and work.

People with the right aptitude can learn anything. you are not doing any path breaking innovation here. Quit making these demotivating statements and give some concrete ideas how to make them employable. I will bet my last rupee you do not have one single original idea on how to do it.

where this country stands?
by Prateek Sachdeva on Oct 15, 2012 11:38 PM

This survey is the best example to show where this country stands/lacks.

today this unemployment is doing nothing, just increasing the poverty,as if people dont get jobs, den how our country can decrease poverty..

2day private co.'s which are giving jobs to management graduates, the salary is less to survive in a high inflation city like delhi.

And their duties to perform are like performing the duties of a high post personnel...
And private co.'s often say they want everything (all the qualities of an employee) in one employee only.

or if anybody dont have something, den we have to work in a low salary package.
Dont know where this country goes in future,.

they are saying their GDP is increasing or economy is improving, but someone tell to them if people dont have jobs, den why d hell dey are calling this,
whats d use of GDP, if people dont have jobs.,.
Most of the ministers r indulging in d scams, and despite no action is taken by govt., or d actions which had taken by the govt,., and if culprits r in jail, den the VIP treatment is provided to them,as they are the best scam person.

Government should make something for the people of the country, for the unemployed youths of dis country, by giving them jobs, sometimes, somebody lack by the graduation percentage, most of d graduates are in this percentage category,.dere4 cant get jobs.
every b-school have it own company, and nowadays they are posting their graduate students in their co. only..

problem is not only colleges
by deepak on Oct 15, 2012 11:27 PM  | Hide replies

problem is not colleges. there is a big nexus between businessmen and approval authorities. any businessman having money can get approval for opening a college.

If this article has any truth then is it not the responsibility of AICTE and other approval bodies to examine the standard of education in these colleges?
many colleges don't even have lecturers for entire semesters. student's feedback must be taken by authorities and same should be used to see if the college can be allowed to run further. If a particular college is adding no value to system and fooling students and parents then it should be closed.

Final goal of management schools is the campus placement so if any school has failed to get proper jobs to atleast 70% of its students it should be closed for good. Survey is useless because students won't give bad feedback because they are already trapped and they will fear that if they give bad feedback their chances will further weaken. Simply put, if an institute advertizes heavily anywhere and everywhere, it means it is a junk place that accepts anyone and everyone and no one should join it. Have you seen IIM or XLRI advertize on roadside or billboards or magazines? They just put one AD inviting applications and even that is not necessary. FYI - large no of Indias management schools have closed down already.

Management Graduates

And those 10% must be the one who would have been previously employed. Most of the courses are illsuited to Indian environment. In our country it still pays to be jack of all trades and these graduates are neither this nor an expert in anything else. No wonder they are unemployable.

truth
by ar on Oct 15, 2012 11:13 PM

Look at the details of fortune 2000 company CEO's and you will notice that majority are not from the top 50 schools. In India itself look around and you will notice that majority of the CEOs are not from IIMs. Some children of very rich businessmen might have gone to top school by paying or donating, but that is only for the tag and their business is from their parents. In business only two things matter - risk taking and luck, a combination of this works. No degree works. Basic rules of the business is same since ages. Keep looking for an opportunity, take risk and play and if you are lucky then you are successful. Majority of the business schools are run for making money, they won't have even decent teachers, majority of the teachers will be their own old students who completed studies and did not get a job.
