Mr. Patil what you are saying is 100% right, but what I have noticed is good marketing gets people to come for the first few shows (between Friday and Sunday) before word of mouth really spreads. This crowd alone ensures that the producers investment is recovered therefore this extreme focus on marketing.
For example a great movie like Shanghai or other smaller budget movies that dont have marketing dollars don't get the kind of audience say a movie like Student of the Year will get and that will be only because of marketing. Its a different matter that after the first three days the multiplexes will lose money on these movies.
