Why rupees falling?
Stock Market performance: Most of them are foreign investors. Loosing confidence
Inflation
Current Account deficit: India buying (import) is more than export example oil, arms, technology
Corruption: A lot of manipulations goes. Anna Hazare movement made global headlines and foreign investors afraid to invest in this selfish country out of sentiments
RBI policy: It may sell foreign currency to stabilize the depreciation of rupees
Loan and financial regulations tightening decrease money supply
Last there is anti indian policy in bush loby... good step indian cockroaches need to be show their real place

by kamdev sharma on May 20, 2012 07:05 PM

Rupee is falling as more3 and more dollars are required to meet the requirement which is to buy oil, gas , imports and above all by our politicians, who need to keep their black money in Swiss banks.

rupee has depriciated much more than 202%
by gopalkiran on May 20, 2012 06:40 PM  | Hide replies

During last 22 yrs rupee has depriciated by a handsome percentage in compare to US Dollars but it has depriciated many fold compare to gold which can be treated to have stable value and neither British Pounds nor US Dollars or any currency of world is a stable currency so comparing of variable currency has got no meaning like Density and Sp Density in Science.

Your argument would have made sense if you could by oil from foreign countries by giving them gold. Since thats not possible, the dollar / pound evaluation is the only practical thing.

Of course you can buy oil from foreign countries by giving them gold. Gold is universally accepted. Only thing is there is not enough gold to buy oil. So price of gold will have to go up considerably more than price of oil.

Currency Failures
by Tarun Agrawal on May 20, 2012 06:10 PM

When Brazil's currency went bankrupt several years ago, they formed a New Real. The New Real was exchanged for the old defunkt currency. Foreigner investors were all made whole in the stock market, as they owned shares of ownership of the company, no matter what currency Brazil was trading in. Thus stockholders maintained their economic interests and with the new currency exchange simply continued on with business as usual. You can see the Brazil stock market, and there was little or no impact of the currency failure.

diversity in socioeconomic parity is the root cause
by Dr K Saravana Dr K Saravana on May 19, 2012 12:27 PM  | Hide replies

Unity in diversity is our pride, but the fact that such diversity in socioeconomic sense is detrimental to the upliftment of our powers is not well realized. Majority of our population are illiterate, have poor technical skills, and use their labour powers to get by on a day to day basis. This silent majority has the power to vote out any govt that tilts the balance of the economy from being labour based to skill based. Then there is a very vocal minority that is semieducated, doubtfully skilled, but prosperity hungry that wants to see their fortunes changed during their own lifetime. This group has the power to attract undue attention and publicity to their never ending woes and is capable of tarnishing the image of the country at every fora local or global..Slumdog millionaire types..Then there is another wily minority who are street smart, white collared educated, suave who want to run businesses and the country in general. This group has money, muscle and control the economy and the population indirectly through the "Democratic system". A strong rupee will harm exports, make imports cheaper, lead to joblessness and enhance the antiincumbency factor... A weak rupee will harm imports and since india's imports of oil, nuclear power, etc form the backbone of the economy on which exports are based,we cannot allow the rupee to weaken too much as then our earnings through exports also suffer especially in the agriculture and manufacturing sector like textiles, etc.

Only in a homogenous advanced population where the variance in socioeconomic parameters is minimal, will a strong rupee work..As long as India needs to feed its unskilled and semiskilled millions, the rupee will continue to fall..
