Goa to cut petrol prices, will other states follow?
by Hebbar R on Mar 31, 2012 11:27 AM

Mr. Rajiv Shukla,
This is certainly a pro-people move. But, before you talk, please put your money where your mouth is. As per your own claim this is a good move by the Goa Govt. You own party had formed the Govt earlier, why didn't they reduce VAT then? You claim that Maharashtra and Andhra did the same earlier. Why then is petrol so costly in these states compared to Goa? Are you aware that Karnataka is being charged Rs 5 per liter extra as transportation charges? The then CM Mr S M Krishna, also from the Congress, was not even aware of this (why should he when he did not have to buy petrol from his own money), he promised the State that he would look into this issue. Unfortunately 5 years seem to be too short a period for such an important issue and he could not check this issue and clarify to the people. Besides, Mr. Krishna introduced many additional cess on petrol.

Mr Manmohan Singh, as the then Finance Minister had introduced a whooping Cess on petrol for rescue of Indians from Kuwait after promising to remove it once rescue is over. May not be relevant now, but relevant are you aware of what he did to this Cess in his next Budget?

May be you can teach some of your lessons to the Finance Minister of your own party that reduction of taxes is a pro-people move. If you are successful, may be he will roll back some of the proposals from his recent budget that are hurting the common man. May be he will be a bit more sensitive to people.

Under BJPRule from 1998 to 2004 we got:
1) GQ Highway Network
2) Low interest rates that led to housing boom
3) Offloading of PSUs that led to govt income and better mgmt of these cos. For example CMC.
4) Many infra projects and overall robust development
5) Tremendous economic growth t 8% or more.

Under Congie Govts from 2004 onwards we got:
1) Higher interest rates on housing that increased our HousingLoan EMIs or increased our loan tenure to 40 years
2) High increases on all foodstuffs, with average 4 person family's grocery bill going up to Rs. 2000 from Rs. 1000.
3) Petrol price increase from Rs. 58 to Rs. 80
4) 2G Scam R. 176000 cr
5) Coal Scam Rs. 10 Lakh cr
6) Rice Scam Rs. 3200 cr
7) Growth down to 6% or less

You decide what you liked better

Goa is a BJPRuledState. MrShukla is talking as if it is a CongieRuled state. See the benefits of a BJPGovt. The moment they came at the center, they slashed interest rates and made housing affordable for us. The moment congies came to power in 2004, they raised interest rates.
