Nothing Short Of Preposterous
by Patakhe Wala on Mar 23, 2012 10:39 AM

With due respect to MIT, lately more and more personalities from such seem to come out with unbelievably insane theories about nation running, corruption et al. To me most of what he says is at the very least, thoughtless babble if not absolute rubbish from a person who should know better.

...and we thought (I still do) good institutions have come of age and are pillared on practicalities and real experiences – past, existing or predictable.

I'd only on Mr. Banerjee. But most of us would have opened this article for its heading and read beyond first para because of the MIT & Ford foundation title in first line.

Yes we certainly are lacking in quality of systems and implementation.

But to say that Middle class is not being taxed sufficiently is perhaps short of suggesting murder as a solution. In India I think taxation of the middle class goes beyond the hilt. There is no end to their suffering; fact is that this is the only class that forms the bulk of a nation’s GDP… tax payers, contributors, employers, consumers (all tax avenues), it is the Middle class that brings in the moolah and yet keep getting squeezed year on year. A meagre respite in income tax with tremendously disproportionate & painful increase in other tax prompted cost of living, coupled with nil/negligible income growth is something that Indian Middle class has to live with.

I hope MIT is more careful in selection of its professors or at least has a leash on its name being ment

Who is this useless guy?
by Ravi on Mar 23, 2012 04:29 AM

These economists should be locked in a university and must be strictly not allowed to make any comments on the economy and taxation system.

The fundamental laws of economics are flawed. These laws still can't avoid stock market crashes or recession.

If you really want to understand the economy then talk and listen to people who are on the battlefield, not the ones who are in universities.
Useless people!

How can we tax the rich
by aaaa on Mar 23, 2012 01:35 AM  | Hide replies

When most of the r!ch people don't get their income legally. You can only tax what is earned legally. So this is vicious circle - Corruption - illLegal income - rich people - no tax . So if we tax rich there will be more tx on people who earn legally.

Rich people are kingmakers in most of the countries.

You simply can't tax them. No law of economics covers this reality of society.

To rephrase one simply can't tax rich people without a strong reason.

STRANGE
by amit gupta on Mar 23, 2012 01:08 AM

Very strange logic just like zero loss theory. After Honourable Supreme Court cancelled the licences to loot now the thugs are saying loss of money very strange.

Corruption is not going to end in India. The time has come to make it official. Let people of India bargain for price other ways will emerged automatically to supersede the corruption practice.

People of India need this anti-dose.

Because there is tendency among Indian to vie for all evil tactics to get rid of anti-corruption laws.
