Check corruption and theft also

While raising the fares might be justified, but several other reasons are there too for the railways being in ICU.
I have seen huge thefts of rail properties from scrapyards and during transportation especially of coal, minerals and iron materials. Eatables and cold drinks in many stations are sold at inflated rates and hence, people avoid purchasing them. The food of pantry cars in most trains are pathetic are only few people buy.
Please don't blame the passenger fares alone for the condition of railways. Removing these malpractices can greatly boost the railways.

Two questions to mr tribedi, a)who drove the railways in the ICU b) I understand some committees were formed by your predecessor comprising some intellectuals of West Bengal, can you please tell the countrymen what is their contribution towards the development of the railways in particular(though they are being paid handsomely by the railways, no matter it is public money, let them loot)

Railway is really in ICU
by S r on Mar 15, 2012 11:11 AM  | Hide replies

Due to Cheap Politics of First by Lalu then by mamta. The railway is really in bad shape. When Disel was about Rs. 16.59 in March 1, 2002, Now 40.91 Rs/Ltr . More than 125% jump, wages other cost. It is really in bad shape. No new railway line has been laid whether from Delhi to Mumbai or Delhi to Calcutta or Delhi to Chennai the line that are laid way back in 90's is still over used. No daily running long distance trains has been introduced. New Trains that they introduced are running once or twice a week train introduced are for name sake. All the tickets books within one months of opening of ticket booking counter. Due to non availability of tickets people switching to Air and people travel on RAC or on waiting list. Also cleanness, food and safety is very major issue. No minister knows. They travel by Air or By First Class AC in trains with special privilege these Politicians don't really knows the ground reality.

Hats off to Dinesh Trivedi , Blast678 to cheap poltics of mamata. We must welcome PM / FM support to Dinesh Trivedi.

100 % agreed .... India needs a quality and safe Railway transport for all passengers whether travelling in SL or AC. Railway should have the right to change the fares to meet their Operational Expenses atleast.
When Govt can remove the price control over Petrol which is right nw @ 70, what the hell is preventing them to make Railways a self-sustainable entity.
We are sick of this cheap politics.
