In this article Czech Republic is ranked 2nd with a Per capita alcohol consumption of 16.45 litres whereas in another Rediff Article The Czech Republic is ranked 1st with a Per capita alcohol consumption of 210.4 litres. It also states that :
The country's capital Prague is a well-known destination for bachelor parties thanks to its drinking culture. Beer is the number one drink in the Czech Republic, at 83 per cent, while wine comes second at 10 per cent, spirits at more than 3 per cent and ready to drink or high-strength alcohol premixes is at fourth position.
Most of these countries have the highest consumption of Alcohol mailnly due to the basic fact that these countries are so cold and alchohol gives the warmth or the very much needed heat for the body

Re: I think by Guy (View MyPage) on Jun 06, 2012 05:12 PM You are abolutely wrong on this front.Actually, alcohol dissipates(reduces) the heat from the body and drinking alcohol during severe cold is considered a big no. These countries drink because it is there culture.

If you look at the DATA, you will find most top notch countries in the list are part of erstwhile Soviet block countries. In India, Kerala has this dubious record ! What do they have in common? Communism? Kerala government runs on booz revenue so can't blame the drunkards for turning the economic wheels of the government..:)
This much drinking required to maintain their body temperature to their weather. In Holland parents use to teach children about how much to drink and when to drink. so nothing is wrong in it.

Utter nonsense, drinking actually dissipates the body temperature. In cold countries, it is there culture hence they drink.

Nobody is drinking because of Sonia, dont spread your political views without basic statistics. Indians drink because the income is great compared to a decade before. Drinking is a luxury for many, young generation has enough money and to spend it they go to pubs & bars.

Its an absolute nonsense that u speak. Its got nothing to do with extra money. It really has become a fad. We in India think everything that the west does is STYLE and we have got to copy them. We should keep in mind the kind of weather we have on offer here before take our sip. Its fine for people in Russia, for instance, where the weather gets really really cold.
Flawed survey! Teey have taken volumes in litres of beer, wine and spirits as equivalent and reported that as "alcohol". Average alcohol in beer is about 5%, in wine it is about 12% and in spirits about 40%. Bad statistics.

alcohol content in beer and wine is less. They are not measuring the total qty of beverage taken, but just the alcohol content.
