In India Metro is only one system that covers all stations from far-off regions (suburbs other neraby towns) to city center. In USA (and probably other countries), this system is called commuter rail. Metro in these countries is that which runs within city limits. By that definition Mumbai perhaps will be seen as commuter rail, but not Metro.

Looks like you have visited only 3 cities in world. By the way, Sydney does not have a very great public transport system - of course, it may be the best or second best in Australia, but it is far, far below global standards.

kk,u seem to be a illiterate sadakchap man.do u know that a metro is supposed to be any intracity rail trans system, and the famous mumbai local is a metro.n its true that it carries a huge no of people at a very competitive rate as compared to the glossy ones that are shown here.be proud of what we have n try to improve upon it,rather than denigrate it.
It looks like is rediff interested in giving photos of glossy, posh subways and metros without a justice to contents !! If busiest stations ,based on human nos.travelling, are to be enlisted, mumbai local stations should be in first 5 in world !!!! I'm sure the day Metro runs in Mumbai,it will surpass all other metros in this statistics.
Not sure, why Mumbai Local is not in the list... I think, the simple definition of Metro is the trains running within the City.. Even Mumbai Local is kind of that only.. and I am sure, number of passengers travelling through that should be easily crossing a 1 Billion a year...
