Know the unknown !!!
by Swatantra Jananayaga on Dec 25, 2012 10:45 AM

Prof Nick Bloom, an erudite scholar and a committed boffin from the prestigious Stanford has offered the following to tame the malaise afflicting India's GROWTH path:
- Manufacturing Revitalization;
- FDI in Retail; (Is there a hidden cue meant for a specific constituent)
- Land Acquisition;(Is there a hidden cue meant for a specific constituent?)
- Getting rid of regulations;
- Labour law reforms;
- Ease of doing business.

To cite any 'unknown' from the above (to an average Indian) is like finding a needle in a haystack. They cannot be dismissed as mere platitudes either, though oft quoted by many for years or two decades.

Yet, if any Indian Professor/discerning individual dared to advance the same above factors (Too well-known as they are) in conventions/discussions/meets the same will be dismissed simply as 'cadwallops'.

India has people wanting to to see light in their lives - in crores;
India has people wanting to enjoy high life below stairs - also in crores;
India has people who hide their own light unfortunately - in crores;
India has a growing bourgeoisie - in crores than any of the above categories.
Abundant talent but sadly movers & implementers are not bobbish.

What India lacks is the STRENGTH to deal with the twin treacherous evils:
- Cantankerous Corruption pervading every facet of GROWTH activity;
- Covinous Corporealist(s) ready to choke up their GOLDEN HUTCH(ES).

India needs LEADERSHIP & ORDER more than any other.

Know India !!

Indians are a dab hand at BOXING WITH HANDS TIED BEHIND; if Prof Nick Bloom may care to discern.

You only have to see/watch SANJEEV KUMAR boxing WITHOUT his arms and succeeding too (Sholay 1975). It was not just theatrical but in real life too we are adept at meeting such challenges.

Adaptation to conditions with rigorous preliminary study of conditions : business, political, environmental and demographical : are not just virtues but a necessity in this new age ventures.

No cakes and all - all the time- and one cannot expect more than a rapidly growing bourgeoisie with aspirations to be open to an outsider easily.
Compromise - something for something. Business knows too well that it takes time to dig in and flourish.

Any way India is on its course, at a pace relevant to its ambitions, to be flexible where needed to help and take help.

Look into a mirror and what do you see?
by David Dak on Dec 25, 2012 07:08 AM  | Hide replies

It is interesting to see so many indian blame inidan govt for india's backward and corruptions. My suggestion is to look into a mirror and see what you are. It is not govt's fault but you, every indian facult. On the one hand, your indain claim that you have a democratic govt, rule of law and political system in place that China does not have. On the other hand, you blame such govt for your problem. Yes, govt does play an important role for the development of the country but people, the people in that country play imperitive role as well. Blindly blaming the govt can not solve the problem. Also, how come your indian are so incompetent to elect such impotent govt time to time? Is this your problem or your govt problem? I think it is your problem, your indian people's problem for the so impotent india. Are you agree?

I agree totally. Given a Brits system to Indians, you got India, while given to Chinese, you got a HongKong.

india govt and police only like hafta or bribes to function
by anthony on Dec 24, 2012 09:37 PM

Hafta or Bribes is the only instrument that gets the job done. Even a death certificate needs hafta to be paid, or you will die too waiting for the certificates you are asking.

Why compare with China?
by Rajendra Nayak on Dec 24, 2012 09:05 PM

India has its own merits and demerits. Although there is democracy in books there is no democracy at the ground level. China has no democracy at all but still surging ahead because there is a will power to excel induced by the state.
Here the politicians themselves do not use Indian goods but talk of national pride. They go outside for surgery even though the Indian doctors are experts.
We have to compare ourselves with small nations first and then a giant like China. Until the politicians change India will sink as a Nation in history.

MARKET ECONOMY = CORRUPTION
by Janarddan on Dec 24, 2012 08:10 PM

"There is some corruption, but I can get my way and run my basic business".

Actually you get your way THROUGH CORRUPTION. Corruption in Indian is bred by the Corporates. This prompted the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) of India to demand that Corporates be brought under the purview of Lokpal bill.
