This is a good decision but governement need to first delveop the cluster of IT products as even it today is producing Laptop then almost 90% is being imported and only 10% is being added locally..as we do not have cluster of parts maunfacturer like China have this ..Import bill will not reduce unless governament puts thrust on manufacturing of semi conductors devices in India ...

why 30% why not 100%

If security is the key concern - then Govt should enforce 100% procurement for Made in India goods. For laptops and government schemes for school kids - we can still depend on imports as they will not carry any vital information.

Hello Lakshan sir , wake up and smell the coffee .
100% is impossible , please open an computer or laptop and see how many different manufacturers have ics /components and how many different types not even all are silicon based there are inductors 10 different types of resistors made of different materials we need infrastructure , raw materials ,technology and so much money to move all this to India .China is an established player with a very efficient manufacturing base and we Indians are very cost consicous people we will never support our own products if they r expensive than chinese and we cant be cheaper than them until we get the scale .

Even in govt tenders they ask for crazy impossible prices internally when the actual tender might be rewarded at high prices , so on paper this is easy

I will be happy even if they get 30% done in India will be a huge way forward

and yes ur right for schools we can still import because we need to save money and data is not vital for now
