Charge the airlines not the passengers
by settaboy on Dec 15, 2012 08:07 PM

GMR was dumb enough to charge the passengers rather the airlines (which is a standard operating procedure worldwide).

This decision by Maldives government should be cited as a precedent by governments of Indian states to force GMR in reversing its nonsensical business model.

Airline owners park their fleet almost all day and night in the airport and use hangar facilities for overhaul and refuel. They can pay the extra fee easily.

I am not paying a dime extra.

Lesson to India
by nar ven on Dec 08, 2012 04:44 PM

A small island nation has shown that national interests are above financial matters and have chosen to pay compensation rather than allowing GMR to fleece passengers and thereby making maldives an unattractive destination. Air Asia and other low cost airlines have removed Hyderabad airport from their destinations citing high airport charges. The AP government should learn a lesson from the same and take over indian airports too and stop GMR from fleecing travellers.

pvt airport
by arani prakasam on Dec 08, 2012 02:41 PM  | Hide replies

Ever since the pvt airport management took over , airport usage charges have gone up very high
passengers have no option but to pay . pl see the last 6 years airport useage charges.
More over they are the reason for airlines sickness. The exhorbitant parking charges has killed may airlines
Finally if you enter the airport one will wonder are we in some Mall or airport . Moving space is limited and most area is used for shops.
Earlier in Bangalore airport we were paying carparking of 30 rs. today we have to pat 60rs
plus toll
Indian govt also should take over the air port and run after paying the construction minus dep charges.

CANCELLATION OF GMR CONTRACT IN MALDIVES
by mandar gokhale on Dec 08, 2012 02:12 PM  | Hide replies

this is the state of our foreign policy & relationship which is at low ebb. Maldivian govt. is divided into members from northern & southern atoll. they have big rivalry between them. so when govt. changes it will happen.
INDIAN GOVT. SHOULD TAKE STRONG ACTION & SHOULD STOP ALL AID TO MALDIVES AS DECLARED BY FOREIGN MINISTRY.
GMR & Interenational arbitration should slap huge penalty on maldives.
we should appeal all travel company in INDIA to BAN MALDIVES travel which is dependant on TOURISM only.
MORE THAN HALF OF MALDIVES business is routed through SBI Male branch. SBI should stop giving credit to all maldivian businessman. It is possible & manageable also to put full pressure on maldives, if our INDIAN GOVT. is having willingness to do so, or else wrong signal will spread to outside world that INDIAN GOVT & FOREIGN POLICY CAN BE TAKEN GRANTED BY ANY COUNTRY.

Maldives is not suitable for kafirs
by jaggu on Dec 08, 2012 10:01 AM

The investments in Sharia compliant countries do not mean anything for Kafirs who are treated as slaves and clauses of international agreements work like toilet paper when Takkaiya comes into effect.

GMR management should educate itself first on 7 th century basics to avoid making a mockery of its shareholders.
