Indian railways
by yogesh dadu on Apr 30, 2012 08:32 AM  | Hide replies

Indian railways need to make war scale changes in railways functioning. some of the ideas are
1. security: all trains need to have satellite communication facility, GPS etc.. all bogeys need to have communication equipments like video cams
2. all halts must be announced by public address system with the details of location on screens located above the entrance in the boggies. like metro trains
3. food : quality of food served in trains needs major improvements. tha quality of pantry car needs to be modern.
4. toilets. the condition is pathetic..we must have aircraft like toilets.

Is it really true stray cows are considered gods in India? Do Indians actually truly in their heart believe that stray animal walking around the roads is divine?

I dunno in what spirit you asked the question but if it is sincere then yes, we Hindus consider every being as the manifestation of divine. More importance is given to cows since it is a very useful animal, peaceful and with many virtues. Our life permeates with religion everywhere, hard for others to understand.

if everything is divine, then why is no one allowed to eat only specifically c*ws. That means c*ws have higher respect than other divine counterparts? Someone please elaborate.

Railyways in India
by Alfred Thomas on Apr 28, 2012 09:39 AM

India have to improve their rail network to avoid increasing the traffic jams in cities and towns. As a public transportation system railways can play a great role in decreasing the traffic jams in roads. The railywas have create a new division of metro railways for the cities and towns and to connect the major towns and cities in india, just like national highways. This trains should be high speed trains. Indian Railways are still at the stage 1900-1950. The govt. have to bring it to the 21st century. For that a strong govt. is required at centre less mamta.

My experiences in china
by Indiabeatchina on Apr 27, 2012 11:56 PM  | Hide replies

I've been in china for 3 yrs. Workers from the factory where I work are the poorest in the city with a salary just 250 US dollars a month. They come from western China and most of them have just received compulsory education(9 years). However, 250 US dollars can buy 5 hard bed tickets(with AC and clean beddings ) of fast train in a distance of 1500km in 12 to 16 hours. Or, 3 tickets of 300km/h high speed train from Beijing to shanghai or 4.5 tickets of 250km/h D train. And most trains in china are typical fast train( T, Z or K train) . Tickets of fast trains in china remain the same for almost two decades.
China is quite different from how our media says. Chinese people fiercely criticize their government online, much much more critical than how we do to ours. More importantly, their government values their views. Their minister of railway has been arrested for corruption. How about India? They discuss the future of china, even these immigrant workers from the poor west.
2am Beijing time, I feel sleepless and depressed. Even these who earn the one of the least salary in china have decent life and can afford to send their children to college. And we still believe those craps about how miserable their life is. To say nothing of those living in the city with an average monthly income of 400US dollars in mid- west and 600 US dollars in costal China. To say nothing of those living in huge municipality.

No doubts that China has become a superpower and can show 2 fingers to US. Chinese people are patriots unlike indians. India has to make constitutional amendments to incorporate some models of chinese governance. indian style democracy has screwed the country inside out and we are moving downslide at express speed.

Dude, stop sitting on a pedestal and making judgments. Agreed that the Chinese trains cover 2000 km on an average in a day. Indian trains cover only about 1200 km per day or thereabouts. But there are some key differences. India is densely populated territory, and lots more signaling due to dense railway network. Thats typically the reason why there is a ripple effect; one train delays many other trains. Despite all that, you have to be happy that there are lesser accidents than what can be expected in this country.
If you notice closely, the Russian and US/Canada trains are not way faster, even they average only 1000 something a day.

Agree about too many stops leading to much lower average kms/hour here. But it will be good to know the ACTUAL time taken by these trains on an average. Listen to FM radio announcements everyday about train arrival info, so many long-distance trains routinely reach 4 to 9 hours late.

Good point, the reason for trains delay is due to ripple effect; one train getting delayed can have ripple effect due to high ratio of trains to tracks. In a controlled environment, for example Shatabdi exp between Bangalore to Chennai is typically on time and takes only 4.5 hours or so, for 350 kms.

china has overtaken even the western countries in creating a world class railway infrastructure.India cannot even hope to pose any sort of competition for the next 30-40 years atleast with it's pathetic existing Railway network which is marred by inefficiency and corruption.

In China if the govt. raise fare by even 10 Rs. per KM nobody dare to shout but in India even if it is raised by 1 Rs. there are ministers who are fired;
That is the difference... Chinese govt. does not have any opposition or ally to oppose their plan whatever bad or good;
