if you travel by an average airline, you may not be offered even a bottle of water on board. so airline has to strive to be average/good/better/best.
This is discrimination. Air India is the biggest. All we need is reservation in the top ten rankings. We shall come out on the streets and protest.. I protest !!

70% of flight in AIR INDIA should be reserved for SC/ST and OBC. General folks should not allowed to sit on them even if they are vacate.

let indian airline breath first man. To fly in india was not possible for common people as recent as 5-6 years back. The recent changes in aviation industry has made it easy for us to travel by air. All these top 10 airlines mentioned are their since ages. There can not be comparison with Indian airlines who are still in infancy stage comparitively. Let them stand first. May be this comparion with Indian companies is valid after 15-20 years.

It's amazing that a solid point like yours has gone missing in almost every conversation I've had about this thing. It does make sense that the airlines is not going to do well in the first place when Indians were still not flying as much, and a large volume of the indians flying to the gulf and other countries were lower middle class people. The Indian middle class has only just started flexing its airline muscles. It will be interesting to see how the airline invents itself in the new scenario. Personally I think it will difficult to compete with most of the entrenched airlines, but then if the revenue and operating profits pick up due to a surge in no. of flyers, it could well be another story. Thanks for reminding us that Air India has survived through times of recession and the slow progress after independence and is still alive after all that abuse. One looks at Air India in a difference light now.

@Mumbai Indian @Prashanth
Two of the the top ten airlines in terms of service excellence and one of the top five airlines in terms of passengers carried belong to countries with populations of less than 10 million. And even during the earliest stage of its evolution, Air India had more customers than that! Mismanagement and corruption are the reasons behind Air India's debacles. Today Mumbai and not Dubai should have been the regional hub, but thank the relevant ministry for never making aviation a priority and keeping airports a public sector affair all these decades.

And how do you think an airline becomes number 1 or 2? When people fly it more often and give it thumbs up! Air India is a loss making company that has recently asked for government bailout - so revenue collected from people like you and me will be used not to build roads, power or connect cities by rail or road but to pay Air India for not running their business properly.
By the way China is big in aviation, as are Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand. They have been winning the best airport tag from skytrax and ACI for the past 5 or 6 years. Search for airport capacities in China and compare their preparations with ours, you will understand what I mean.
