Petrol
by Nayak Nayak on Jun 09, 2011 10:30 AM

Why opposition led governments hide from the public the exorbitant sales tax their government charging? They mislead people by saying Centre only responsible for high cost of petrol & diesel. The Karnataka Government for example is levying highest sales tax on petrol. If they are really concerned about the people they can reduce the state levied sales tax and make petrol less costly. If at all petrol is costly in India it is only because of taxes levied on it which is in some cases more than 50% of the total cost!

Do you call Sitaram and Bardhan intellectuals? LOL. They are good at calling strikes, Bharat bandhs. Nothing constructive is expected from them. We should rather encourage eco friendly modes of transportations like bicycles. We should seriously discourage use of cars. People must learn walking distances up to 7/8 kms or so.

It is not only fuel, the price per Km travelled also. In air it cost below Rs 5 and for international route it is much cheaper. But cars, taxies and autos it is above Rs 15perkm

What does the oil company get?
by mahesh nair on May 16, 2011 05:55 PM  | Hide replies

I had done this calculation when the price was 51.90. At that time the break up was :
Basic Price = Rs 21.93
Excise duty = Rs 14.35
Education Tax = Rs 0.43
Dealer commission = Rs 1.05
VAT = Rs 5.5
Crude Oil Custom duty = Rs 1.1
Petrol Custom = Rs 1.54
Transportation Charge = Rs 6.00
Total price = Rs 51.90

So for 22 rupees that the oil companies charge, the taxes we paid then was 28 rupees.

UPA Govt If you want to win this election reduce the taxes on fuel. Its not gold to put tax. It is for daily consumption of rich and poor people. So if want to win this election Reduce the taxes. And bring the price level of petrol to 35- 40. I am 100% Confident you will win this election - Finance minster are you listening ?????

You would be surprised to know that ATF is more Raw and less filtered than Petrol... closest to Kerosene. Petrol is the most refined form and the costliest

The oil price in the international market was never study and always fluctuating. Will these bassstttards reduce the price when the price goes down? Nowadays most of the car buyers go for diesel one. It is the foolishness on the govt's part not to touch it

Jujubi, did u read economics at school. Diesel prices directly impact the prices of commodities. Its not about cars... its about food prices. Petrol prices should be 200 rs a litre... so that people start using public transport and less pollute the environment

You are an idiot. Petrol is not used only by the rich. It is even used by the poor for their tvs or luna because that will take them to their destination rather than wait for public transport and hang on the footboard.

Ravi u must be aware that not everybody drives car/bike for fun sake..It is the bare minm necessecity in a country like India where public transport system is non-existent,even if available it is pathetic.Don't do advocacy for rationality in pricing petrol as we are a third world nation & the price of petrol is the highest in the world...
