Whats left?
by doltonfrancis forte on Jun 10, 2011 08:28 AM

What is left, essentially a party flag, party office and lot of rabble rousers, keep the people unemployed, dont allow them to dream a better life and feed them with empty rhetoric, promises and keep them tied to a party plot of impending arrival of imperialists and doom, while the netas travel in star rated sedans and live a life of luxury and have all the associated benefits and send the kids to abroad for a good education.

Bengalis need to be more optimistic, take charge of own future
by Zayne Grey on May 16, 2011 10:20 PM

Its only natural for Bengalis to feel downcast since W. Bengal, which was once quite well off compared to the rest of India, is now backward and down in the dumps. But take heart folks - many other countries that have had similar reverses eventually came back through optimism, determination and hard work. Example Germany, Japan, So. Korea, E. Europe ..

The best way to get started is to form small teams of friends and volunteer to improve your own neighborhood, do simple things like clean it up, plant a free trees / shrubs, paint the buildings, start a small but neat cafe etc.

Then start a small grocery store where the locals will buy their supplies instead of from outsider traders. Then network with other such stores to gain influence over the Distributors who keep most of the profit.

With more money in hand it would soon be possible to start small factories and create jobs.

Election result and aftermath.
by Ahi Sen on May 15, 2011 09:48 AM  | Hide replies

The Left Front in West Bengal has been voted out after continuous rule for 34 years. It is unique in the history of bourgeoisie democracy. The development of the poor and backward class develop new demands of higher standard of living. To gain that, alternative means of earning is needed. Therefore, development of industry and growth of agriculture are essential. West Bengal is a state like other states but it had to start with burden of refugee influx accompanied by step-motherly attitude of central government in respect of grant of license for establishment of industries. The left Front has succeeded in the sphere of agricultural development but could not succeed in establishment of industry because of continuous opposition by opposition parties. The new government in the state will have to provide employment to the educated youths as well as to uneducated poor peoples of the state. Mamata has whipped a passion for protest to get electoral success but now she will have to face the protests from her supporters if their hopes and aspirations are not fulfilled. The performance of Gram panchayats led by her party seems to be too poor in comparison to other gram panchayats. Therefore, future will see whether bricks or bouquet is waiting for her. I wish she survives the difficult political terrain by delivering the goods and not fail as she has in running the Indian Railways.

Pereptual struggle
by Prem Mohan on May 14, 2011 09:03 AM  | Hide replies

People in Bengal do not want jobs and development. They want to live in a state of perpetual revolution and blame others for the lack of economic opportunity. The people of West Bengal really enjoy bandh, dharna, strike, gherao, micchhil, gono-andolan etc.
Mr Jyoti Basu understood this very well and rule for a long time. Ms Mamata Bannerji has used the same strategy to come to power.

Mr Buddhadev Bhattacharya thought he could industrialise West Bengal when his party was thoroughly against it. In West Bengal, people are more than happy to live as subsistence farmers, wearing their gamchhas and eating their frugal meals.

Mr Budhdhadeb Bhattacharya only thought he could only fire and kill innocent people like he did in nandigram and Netai..and then cover up his actions with lies.People refused to accept his lies anymore.

India is a paradox...
by A P on May 14, 2011 05:54 AM  | Hide replies

If India is really a Democracy , how can there be a Communist or Left party in the country???

Matter of fact, India is a banana republic under the guise of democracy...

there's so much disparity and diversity here that it's next to impossible to achieve consensus and harmony..

While you are almost true given the current situation, yet it is surprisingly possible to unite all India. Haven't you seen the unity during the World Cup cricket final? Didn't you see the celebrations in every city? Of course many villages also celebrated.

Provided there is a leader for the masses who is clean and pro-people and visionary, the people of India can be united. Today we prefer self over nation, party over people which is why no leader belong to the masses.

Also, communism is not a bad idea and is required in a country where so much poverty is still there. But it is not practised the correct way. And the current brass of communist leaders are also as corrupt in their ideologies as the cong leaders are corrupt with the money.

In the USSR, communism collapsed because the economy was bankrupt and the people had no democratic rights. Gorbachov happened to be the Secretary General of the CPDU at that time. He wanted to reform communism - something that cannot be done. Ultimately, the forces of history were too powerful.
