the funny thing about all this is that if I replace the contents of one of these bottles by an ordinary Merlot, most people would not find the difference

What a brainless comment... The Sommerliers would even tell u which wine u replaced and when it was replaced, etc... But these wines are not ranked as per the price for consumption but auction... La Fite & Mouton Rothschild produce some fine variety of wines which are available for common sale that costs 000s of euros...
