Not a surprise
by Abhay Kumar on May 15, 2011 06:34 PM  | Hide replies

The Infy and Wipro was expected to go down. Whoever have the experiance of these companies can understand the basic structural and behavioral problem with the organization. They both work on the same pattern so result is same for both.Wipro has a poor talent management and worst internal politics among the middle management.I find no reason Why wipro can succeed and had good results.10 years back IT was not so matured they got many offers from the clients. Now, they are loosing the base of the clients because of loose management and Employee caliber.Any one can challenge the common Architects of the Wipro in terms of Technical knowledge. The good who left, joined the CTS and CTS is doing much better as it was expected... Salary and band increment are so complex in Wipro that any genuine candidate can be a Junior for many of the candidates who are less experienced in every term.
They have changed the CEO, but the core is same. They will go below 10 ranking very soon.

I agree what Abhay Kumar has mentioned to a great extent. It is kind of insider story of these two organizations. In Wipro people management is at a shocking worst level. Band movement, appraisal of the employee, career growth of technically sound resources, client interaction, client expectation management everything messed up and in an utter disorganized state. Moreover the talent pool is leaving for better opportunities leaving no hope for the survival of the company in the long run. It is going to be reduced to kind of a body-shooping organization with a good sales presence.

How these companies are making money?
by jitjxe@rediffmail.com on May 13, 2011 12:50 AM  | Hide replies

How these companies are making money?

If an employee is travelling from India to US for deputation, CTS is paying $3000 as initial expenses (as a interest free loan and you need to repay in 6 months)!! With this money you have to manage initial hotel expenses (this itself will come around $2000), all transportation expenses, a rental house (if you are first time in US, no where in US you get a rented house without paying 2-3 months advance), and all other initial expenses (if you are with family, think about it).

Since most of the places in US have worst public transport system, without a car families can't survive. Don't worry company is paying the interest free car loan, $5000!! In that $1000 for insurance, then for the remaining $4000 you get a 1995 or older model scrap (I would like to put a sticker: Hypothecated to CTS).

Salary is the more funny thing: If you are on L1B and your spouse also can work on dependent VISA. If they get a job here, their offer will definitely $25K more than what your are earning in CTS!!

It will take 1-2 years to clear off all your debts and save a single penny if you want to live with your family...

This is how a typical IT company making profit in bigger figures.

It is a shame that Indian govt subsidised companies like Satyam and Wipro. Raju stole all the money. Wipro is owned 86% by Premji. So all taxpayers money goes to make him rich and then he can say he is ethical and so on and forth.
He gets 400 crores of dividend a year. So called aam admi govt is in hands of such people.

U know what, this is what the Indians love. Amrika, amrika, amreeka.

When I was there in the late 90s, I was making almost $80K/yr in a smallish town of 400K people. I paid a rent of Rs 450/month for a 1 bed room apt.

I never had any interest in living there forever, and therefore, never even bothered to apply for Greed Card. I duly returned back to India after my 6 years on H1B ran out.

As long I was there, ppl in India revered me whenever I came back. After having settled here, they loath me for god-knows-what.

Now my co-brother is on a L1 in the US....am guessing he probably makes $30-50K/yr in New Jersey. That would be almost 1/4rth of what I was making......yet my in-laws and even my wife think they are so great.

Recently I was on visit to USA. My son-in -law is US Citizen and works for a Foreign IT Company. He told me, Most of regular 2-3 years experience guys are from India. Also company out source some of jobs to Indian IT companies, but quality and response is poor.
Worst part is some Indians are in Management and they have exported dirty habit of working long hours and making every one life miserable. This basis problem with Indians. They can not compete with skill and quick decision. They force every one to work extra hours with out over time. Another issue is they will ask you to work from home (saving all expenses of office), then they will give so much target work, you have to spend 15-16 hours per day in front of pc. I was shocked to see how our your managers are coming up. Creating stress and strain for them self and to all employees will take them to UP STAIRS faster than anticipated.

In our days staying back in office for work was considered work-inefficiency ~ any-overtime used to be caused due to unforeseen circumstances not due to improper or insufficient planning of work. Today it seems to be the order of the day - to over work - bcoz of a dirth of top-story [brain] stuff. I call it burning candles not from bothsides ~ but from the center too.....that means burning two candles both sides....consequently the retirement age should reduce to around 45.

Why Wipro and Infy are slowing
by NIthin on May 12, 2011 12:55 PM

During the recession a lot of companies took advantage and tried to squeeze a lot from employees and did many other things which were not exactly employee friendly. Indian companies especially Infy,Wipro were worse then others in this regard. There are instances in Infy where the whole team put in their papers as soon as recruitment picked up in the industry because of the new policies implemented in the company.
The thing in IT Services is that the employees are the main investment/raw product(I couldn't get better word). So if the supply of raw products for input is in mess obviously your revenues/profit is hit.
Moral of the story : IT companies should treat their employees better and take care of their concerns.
PS : I definitely don't want to work in Infy or Wipro as of now. I would prefer CG/CTS/HP etc.

North America market
by Siddharth Kumar on May 12, 2011 12:06 PM  | Hide replies

Cognizant has overtaken even Infosys if you look only at the North America market. Their weakness is they are not strong in RoW (rest of the world) where Infy has pretty significant revenue. Cognizant revenues are 80% US

Also... we dont just "sit".. we use brains.. you would understand if you had it in first place...

Don't forget Infrastructure and brick-n-mortar are the pre-requisites to getting business in Software ~ for managing the resources built...its not vice-versa..ie if no business was there not software would exist....nothing to fight about also this is not a chicken or egg first case.

Taxes , fraud , exploiting emps
by Sri R on May 12, 2011 10:08 AM  | Hide replies

These companies don't pay taxes as they are enjoying tax holiday .. the day they start paying taxes they'll show up losses ...
When you are on tax holiday you are not supposed to remove any employee (this is what they agreed and took land at mud cheap price) .. but look back during recession ...
Another reason is employees are paid very less
when compared to the work they do .. 12-18 hours a day .. but these hours are actually billed to the client ..
One cannot find any ethics any where here .
