Look at the moble subscriber numbers in India. Take Rs.33 per year multiplied by the number of expected subscribers to this new Telco revenue stream. (33 into the estimated number of subscribers). That is the main motivation behind this venture, not the humanitarian angle.

The whole idea of making level fields for competing Rural Boys and Girls in Villages with SMS' storming from urban SMS users , seems to be totally flawed. In the first instance how many families let alone school-children in Rural areas do still have access to telephones? Such hare-brained Good Samaritans first ought to get seasoned with the real face of India's poverty before suggesting such meaningless measures.

Rural families do have mobile phones..
Many Indians are under wrong impression about rural india. The only thing I can suggest is to get down off ur cars and visit rural areas.
The idea is too good and helping many rural families gain knowledge. Not only educational alerts but also job information.
