im an ex-cogni employee and Even tho during my tenure I saw ample of partiality from Senior management to people of their own region caste; I would blame the Indian mentality for that and not the company.
On the other hand, if better policies were in place probably promotions/onsite opportunities would have been better distributed.
That said and done, I'll say that cognizant has the best and most flexible work environment. I enjoyed my 4-year tenure at cognizant despite the miserable benefits.

i have worked for Cognizant, if you are not from Chennai forget it, Managers from Chennai are so aggressive, talk in there own languages, do politics and never allow others to come up. I have seen this with Andhra people also, so in nutshell both Chennai and Andhra, and people who comment on me, please work in these companies when you are not from Tamil naidu and Andhra, and don't come up with excuses like you are more intelligent and this and that, don't talk nonsense except fact that whole South India is very biased, i have seen same group-ism among south Indians in USA also, is US immigration listening to frauds going in New jersey or not?

absolutely correct. I have worked in Chennai and never got any recognition there being a north Indian. These SI people has strong groups. Does not matter which company it is, it's all full of group ism, dirty politics and buttering.

Well in US whole life goes in arranging Papers, there is no quality of life, than really serious problem is if you are not from South India, you are in trouble, reason is wherever you will go, hiring managers are from Andhra or Chennai, the people from these regions cook fake resume, are pretty powerful and if you say something they will play one trick or another, OK somehow you pay $4500 from your pocket to get H1 from New Jersey based shop, than what, there is no end to your problems, 90% companies in US want GC or Citizen these days, so you will stay in room in some apartment which these companies call guest house, share it with 20 other people, will get project for 5-8 months somewhere and than look for new assignment, also you loose money in leases at different places, please note that in Companies South Indians will form groups and they won't help anybody outside there region. Also saving is not more than $1000 to $1500 for someone who gets contracts on consistent basis. Be ready for huge exploitation since one new jersey will give resume to other South Indian who in turn will give it to other , than it goes to prime vendor, all these people will eat money till you work. You will spend money from your own pocket for interview, Note these South Indians have put people with Magic Jack connections in Hyderabad, Chennai and they will keep calling you from India, ask you to attend interview, you loose all money whatever little you save, also understand American culture,

little bit, Americans are not loyal to there own relations , forget about yourself, they end up with cats and dogs, South Indians are also somewhat like them with no good attitude towards anybody else, Also understand one thing, only full time employee who works inside some company for alteast few years becomes good with IT systems, since you are independent consultant , you will keep roaming and in the end you won't get command on one thing. So life in whole is very difficult, so if you have some career or good business idea stay in India, marry in India and respect India and try to solve problems to attain quality of life in India. I learned these lessons after wasting my whole life in name of American dreams so want to tell reality to coming generation. US Immigration please look into New Jersey, have you seen any country in world, where one South Indian takes resume of a Candidate, give it to other, who in turn will give it to other, all these people will eat money every hour till candidate works for few months. No company in New jersey has direct clients, it is all fake, you check w-2 of these guys nothing matches. Even if US immigration can come up with 1 simple rule that H1 sponsor can't deal with more than 1 layer to place candidate, half of immigration fraud will go away.Than obviously ban L1 and H1 visa's for 2 years and measure impact in US economy, truth will come out easily

Common man.. Everybody is like that, my manager is Marathi he recruits and trust only Marathi and same with Guajarati and west Bengal.. i am not here to criticize anybody but it is natural to go with that way, if you do not like, come out nobody is forcing.. Do not propagate wrong thing about India.. This is not good.. One more thing, did you observe in motels, only Gujarati recruits Gujarat is only, same with Punjab all gas stations..
anyway, I worked in Cognizant and it was nice company but incompetent managers but it is ok, as i said, if you do not like, come out that is why i did, i like the company policies and procedures but not with the managers, one of the worst.

I dont know why North Indians critise Sout Indian's... basically North Indians are not technically strong, they are good at Management, they just surive by talking power... So North Indians can survive only in Indian IT companies in India but not in US. US dont need managers they need technically strong ppl. Thats one reason why south Indians shine at client sites.
Here the point is about CTS growth... I started my career with CTS,Chennai and My managers are from north with MBA background with NO technical knowledge. One fine day i came onsite and living happily because no half knowledge managers here. Anyway CTS is one of the best company thats no doubt

reddy south indians are good a$$ lickers, the shine is that of your bosses a$$ not your face - also when you go onsite you spoil the entire nations image by asking for curd rice during continental dinner, you buy stuff which has already expired because you save 20 cents. And g-u-l-t-i-s are famous in India, very soon they will be famous everywhere

North Indians are mainly business people. They will always put a person of their own family/ caste eventhough he/she may be dumb to lead the organisation.
Cognizant anybody can survive especially if u r from Tamilnadu.. they wont sack any employee becoz of low performance..they promote any dump person to manager type posts.. meetings and conferences take place in Tamil language.. if you dont know Tamil, please bear it.. But after all this, cognizant is very good company to work..they give very good salary and bonus to emplyoees..there are few HRs..so very less HR policies..emplyoees are dedicated and when it comes to work they sit late night and complete the work...i feel better than TCS, INFY and wipro..most of its presence is in chennai so you have to bear chennai heat..

idiotic post, im also working in cognizant but nothing as you said.its not if you are from TN you can enjoy your life without doing your work.at the end of the day managers require work to completed ,they are least bothereed whether you are from TN,AP or Bihar.
and who said all conferences are in tamil?all official meetings and conferences would always be in English.May be you are talking about unofficial chats in pantries and cafeterias.if two mallus meet obviosuly they will talk in malayalam in friendly chats same is the case with tamilians.
ofcourse chennai is hot in summer but you need worry abt that as all cognizant offices are well air conditioned

In Bangalore the Kdigas do a good job of restricting your lobby and in Pune we have lungi uthao pungi policy

Nice follow through.Just to add a sentense.I have worked with mallu/tamil/kannada managers and I felt,if u have gud relation with tamil or kannada mgrs u can get promotion/saleryhike/rating etc..but thats not the case with mallu mgr.he will have one more criteria whether ur a mallu...but in my case,I passed this criteria but still i dint anything and now I started working really...
Cognizant is anti-social. 90% Cognizant employees are from forward caste community. But Govt is giving subsidies to Cognizant viz free land, exemptions in corporate taxes, land registration taxes, water, electricity charges.

Nothing to feel proud of as an Indian, for a Company of USA. It employs huge no. of Indians & have offices in India to lower its staff costs & bcoz of huge availability of skilled workforce - a purely commercial decision.
