Easy to blame

People who talk so much about free medical care have to remember one thing that even doctors and clinical staff have family to feed. Finish a basic degree and you get paid 3000 only. how many of you will go to an mbbs doctor for your problems?? each and every one of you run to the top specialist available hence putting the degree in demand. Now conveniently the medical colleges are run by politicians who sense the growing demand and charge almost a crore for a speciality degree. once paid ang got in how is he going to get back the investment. from the same people who run to him looking at the degree.what goes around comes around.
yes let doctors treat people for free, will govt take care of their family??..will you???.
people from abroad come to india because of its affordability, but people here have no value for doctors who have to work almost at times 3 days without sleep. Talk about in foreign hosp where doctor works for max 6 hrs a day and after that theres no responsibility for him.Talk about 72 hrs.
I wonder if you people have gone to mercedes showroom and asked them to give it at the price of ambassador just because you think only you have the right to be happy in life.

I agree with you, I am a social activist, part of Anna Hazare's group, there are lots of irregularities in Medical Council of India operations, it is selling P.G seats for a price, it is giving permissions for medical colleges which lack basic infrastructure, functioning of government hospitals where the doctors to patient ratio is very high, infrastructure is poor or poorly maintained. We need to set up more hospitals in rural areas to give good health care to rural people, better pay and facilities to doctor's who work in rural areas.

Mixed health care delivery
by pulak taraphdar on May 08, 2011 08:03 PM

A lot of people talk of health care to be provided by Government free of cost to all. This utopian idea is obsolete and practiced no where in the world. A lot of people from abroad travel to India to get quality medical care at a reasonable cost. Even recent remark by President Obama regarding medical tourism confirms this fact. Like mixed economy we have mixed health care delivery (both private and Govt). There is nothing wrong with such coexistence considering the population of our country.Only thing is that health care in Govt sector needs improvement quality wise. It is a team work. Hospital Administration should take particular care in cleanliness, providing more beds in good hospitals improve doctor /patient and Nursing staff /patient ratio. Social workers should be engaged to explain things (like risks and benefits of procedures, operations etc.) to patients as it is often found that doctors do not have much time to explain these things and educated social workers can function as a bridge between doctors and patients.

health care system
by cvrmurthy on May 08, 2011 07:54 PM

The write up is one sided. The health care professionals are the lowest paid in the country. We pay max Rs.300 to Rs.500for super specialists. GPs it is Rs.100 or so. Substantial part of the treatment expenses go to medicines. Each bed in a super specialty hospital requires 5 persons. The pay of Nursing staff is just Rs.6000 average for the thankless job they do. The Investment required is more than 30 lakhs a bed. There are all sorts of taxes on hospitals and consumables. Hospitals make no money. health care professionals are poorly paid. Government and Pharma companies make money.

The system needs an overhaul.
by chanakya maurya on May 07, 2011 01:30 PM

Unfortunately the health care is not the central theme of the system.

The central theme is money.

In principle every citizen irrespective of his monetary capability is entitled to the fullest possible medicare.

The present system caters it only to those who can afford it.

The poor guy has to die.

The system cares little for the havenots.

free check-up
by Rozario on May 06, 2011 10:29 PM  | Hide replies

Need to have a mandatory but free periodic check up (once in every six months) for every citizen. Special hospitals to be built only for this purpose and the government should bear the cost.
