what is the highest speed of Nano? Tata group claimed it is around 120 kms, but the fact speaks that it is not at all safe to drive this model on busy and speedy roads. In USA the cars normally runs at around 70/80 miles per hour and on high ways it runs at around 120/140 miles per hour normally (note this is kilometer, but miles). SO ONE CAN EASILY IMMAGINE WHAT WOULD BE THE CONDITION OF NANO ON USA HIGH WAYS.

Considering the size of your jeans, I am sure that you are right. I, on the otherhand, would love to own a small economical car, which runs on the fraction of fuel your Chevy Suburban guzzles down.

A few months ago, Tesla Motors in California was given a land of only 100 acres and only for 30 year lease. The investment by Tesla is $250 mln and at Rs. 47/- per $, it translates to Rs.1,175 Cr which is nearly equal to Tatas investmetn of Rs.1,300 Cr (2000 cr plus, is hog wash. Excess above is only cost overruns!) but on a land of 10 times higher i.e. 1000 acres for a 90 year lease.
If Tesla can produce cars on a similar investment with 1/10th of the land, why Tatas want 10 times of that land?
If Tatas are producing a common man car, Tesla is producing an equally impressive far superior high technology green car!
Even in Capitalist US which has 3 times of Indias land with only 1/3 of Indias population, gives only 1/10 of land and only for 1/3rd of the lease period and that too non-farming land which is not acquired forcibly from private individuals. Contrary to popular perception, land is scarce in India.
Why free market pundits do not advocate free market costs, particularly when the products are sold at market driven prices but not on subsidies either to the farmers or WBIDC or the Govt?
Efficiency of private sector can not be gauged in this method.
The argument of Govt earning taxes is crap! All taxes are pass-throughs to end customers; while profits remain with Tata Motors.
Secondly, I have not taken into account sales tax loans, tax holidays etc., which will subsidise the so called revenue generation in form of salex taxes, excise duties

Tatas pay lease rent on 1000 acres 1-5 years @ 1 cr per year 5 cr 6-10 years @1.25 Cr per year 6.5 Cr., 11-15 years @1.56 Cr per year 7.8 Cr 16-20 years @ 1.95 Cr per year 9.75 Cr., 21-25 years @ 2.44 Cr per year 12.2 Cr., 26-30 years @3.05 Cr per year 15.25 Cr., 31-40 years @ 5 Cr per year 50 Cr., 41-50 years @ 6.5 Cr per year 65 Cr., 51-60 years @ 8.45 Cr per year 84.5 Cr 61-90 years @ 20 Cr per year 600 Cr
A total rent of 856 Cr.
Compare this with interest WBIDC has to pay on a loan 150 Cr taken @ 10% p.a. to acquire the land for Tatas!
Interest @ 10% on a loan of 150 Cr for 90 years = 1350 Cr Add Principal Rs. 150 Cr., An aggregate cost to WBIDC Rs. 1500 Cr. Against which it receives a lease rent of only 856 Cr., i.e. a Subsidy of 644 Cr (1500-856) (interest benefit due to the back-ended payments in favour of Tatas not factored)
Plus
WBIDC sanctioned a 5 year loan of 200 Cr only @ 1% p.a. interest to Tatas. If you take 11% Bank FD rate, then the cost to WBIDC is 10% (11-1) For a 5 year term it translates to 50% on 200 Cr loan i.e 100 Cr additional subsidy
Total subsidy = 644;100 = 744 Cr Cost of project= 1300 Cr., Subsidy as a % of project cost: 744/1300 i.e. 57%
Electricity tariff is only 3/- per unit (KWH) i.e. the lowest domestic slab against 10/- per unit (CERC Peak load hour rate) for industrial supply in a power starved state i.e a subsidy of 67%!

Let Tata produce this Nano in the US where there are no subsidies and then see at what price he can produce a Nano there.
By the way Teslas car is a Green car driven by electricity and there is enough market in the US for Tesla

what fukwas you are doing man ? IN USA you will have to spend $15,000 to own a car and in India you will have to spend $2500 for the same car. Why not sell car cheap in America at THAT price and capture the market than doing low end jobs like parts suppliar ?

Who is speaking an indian middle class or usa middle class. usa middle class will never buy a small car like NANO get that?
For people who don't know , Ratanji graduated from Cornell and also he is currently in Board of Trustees. He is trying hard to market or at least people to know that India has a manufacturing capability...But I am sure there won't be "WOW" .
