New Delhi: The WikiLeaks India cables have produced some more explosive details. The latest one is on the controversial voting on the 2008 Indo-US civil nuclear deal.WikiLeaks says five days before the first United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government of Manmohan Singh faced a crucial vote of confidence in the Lok Sabha on the deal, Congress leader Satish Sharma's aide Nachiketa Kapur showed a US Embassy employee two chests containing cash. The aide said that he was part of a bigger fund of Rs 50 to 60 crore that the Congress had assembled to purchase the support of MPs for the nuclear deal.

He also claimed that four MPs belonging to Ajit Singh's Rashtriya Lok Dal had already been paid Rs 10 crore each, to ensure they voted the right way in the Lok Sabha.

The WikiLeaks cable accessed by 'The Hindu' was sent to the US State Department on July 17, 2008. In the cable, US Charge d'Affaires Steven White described Satish Sharma as "a close associate of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi considered to be a very close family friend of Sonia Gandhi."

Satish Sharma, while interacting with a US diplomat reportedly told him that he and the others in the party were working hard to ensure the UPA government won the vote of confidence on July 22.

Beijing:-
in 2009 Chinese company headed by Hu Haifeng, the son of China’s president was in trouble.. The corruption probe surrounds Nutech Company Limited, which makes advanced security scanners used in airports and customs warehouses. Nutech’s Africa representative, Yang Fan, and two Namibians are accused of bribery to secure a $55.3 million contract to install Nutech scanners at customs inspection points in Namibia.

The cost was mostly to be covered by a soft loan granted by China on the condition the scanners were purchased from Nutech. The Namibian government paid $12.8 million as a “manufacturing deposit” to Nutech in February-2009 which was allegedly immediately transferred to a company listed as a Nutech consultant and then split among the defendants. The irregularity was discovered through a routine investigation under Namibia’s new money-laundering law.

There is currently no public evidence that Hu Haifeng or other high officials knew of the Namibian dealings. However, Hu Haifeng and Nutech have been tied to corrupt contracts in South Africa and Singapore. Nutech is currently facing accusations of “illegal dumping” in the European Union. Namibia’s prosecutor general has requested to interview Hu Haifeng as a witness.

number of billionaires rising
by vilas apte on Mar 17, 2011 09:30 AM

the media flashed the news with lots of fanfare that india has 55 billionaires as per the latest list published by forbes.our PM also is only speaking on how to get growth thru foreign technology(helping the western countries to get their firms contracts from india). he(PM) never speaks on the rising food prices, the high inflation, massive corruption.
if you see mms speeches they all speak on how to give more benefits to the rich, industrialists, business houses, never has any word for the aam admi. we are thankful to sonia & her NAC, who were able to get implemented NREGA, & RTI, which has benefitted the aam admi. now mms & his crony m.s.ahluwalia are putting up one hurdle after another in the way of the "food security act", anothe NAC proposal.from the time these 2G scam,CVC exposure & CVC appointment being annulled by the Apex court, mms has fallen silent as he is seen to be in the know of all the irregularities & deliberately kept mum, or it is incompetency which speaks. the only time he asserted himself was during the passage of indo-us nuclear agreement which benefits american firms more than india & looking to japan's predicament india too should review the nuclear power plant projects in the pipeline.

If this is a satirical comment this it's fine. If not, this is absolutel nonsense. First of all MK Gandhi was not the only guy who fought for India's freedom. The british were already losing grip all over the world and hence couldn't really focus on India. Liberalization was brought in under PV Narasimha Rao's regime along with tax sops for IT industry. India is secured? that is still doubtful as we still face bomb blasts every now and then. India is 3rd richest country having more than 50% of population below poverty line. Do you still want to join Arjun Singh's fan club???

All the comments are biased. Whatever Arjun singh did was to bring social equilibrium and he hasn't done any wrong if he thought to evoke the inspiration of majority of india who are ignored and kept out of shining India. Why a son of farmer or cobbler or son of milkman shouldn't be part of this development and growth. Educating people is not crime encouraging or inspiring the backward people to get a better education is not a crime. This anger what I see here is just envy that they will loose the baston which they have captured in the name of caste supremacy and now there hegemony is breaking..I pity on your mentality who are such a selfish that can't think of their own countrymen to come forward. You are fuming just because you think the people who used to sit on your feet are becoming equal they are prospering..This is what you can't digest.

who the hell is talking ?

are dalits first of all able to lead a respectable life inthe country side?

even basic things like acccess to temples and water is an issue. or even standing inthe same queue as a caste hindu!

when people are being treated like dirt by castesit morons mostly from caste hindus, you have the gall to talk about "at cost of others"?

hat's the precisely the problem with guys like you.

i don't hear protests against caste discrimination...only when you think you are being "affected" , you moan and whine!

that's selfish!

No one is against giving equal opportunities. You provide scholarship, monetary help, school uniforms, food etc. to people from backward castes. But reservation must end, as it breeds inefficiency in the system. Our system's working provides a glaring example.
As regards Arjun Singh, he was on the verge of losing his job in the UPA-1 govt. when he played his masterstroke, he brought the veritable storm by raking up the reservation issue. He could retain his job , but only for the time being. In the second term of UPA, neither he nor his son was given an election ticket. He was a careerist till his last breath and not a person who stood for equality.
But this small, easy thing doesn't enter your mind. I pity you !!!!

the "inefficiency" only exists in the minds of prejudiced casteists..

the facts do not say so.

1. the reservation seats for class 1 jobs takes decades to be filled to the allotted quota.only in class 3 and class4, are they filled easily.
what the hell have the upper caste dominated iAS and other services accomplished ?
"some efficiency"!
2. states with poor implementations of
reservations like up and bihar are among the worst run administration.Tamil nadu which has a heavy "69%" reservation, is among the most well run administration.

just rid your mind of your self manufactured fantasies. you are writing fiction man.

Either you lack the knowledge or you are totally ignorant of Arjun Singh's intention. Arjun Singh was least bothered about social equillibrium (needless to say about others of his class). If his intention was to educate everybod and bring social equillibrium then he would have gone for quota based on economy strength of the family and not based on the caste. For him quota was a trump card which ensured that hes not toppled by the same Gandhi family for which he was a loyal servant. While it's important that the son of a farmer or cobbler or milkman should get educated, it doesn't make any sense to give quota to these men who are already affluent and Arjun Singh was trying to do exactly that. If you still feel that he was for the marginalized people, then there is no greater fool than you!!!

you don't understand veen the basics!

a poor brahmin is not an "untouchable" or maltreated like dalits and advivasis.

sections of caste hindus hold prejudices against certain castes and they are not certainly dvijas!

caste discrimination is the real issue here.
