economist Surjit Bhalla: "India is at the third stage right now. If you question the supply side of corruption, the demand side will automatically be reduced,"

it looks logical and rational and we wish it comes into being!

It is a country without values & our new generation unfortunately has no problem with corruption. How many youngsters show courage to refuse dowry at the time of marriage or stand against corruption in their office? They in fact have few inhibitions for accessing money provided by willing in-laws or corrupt parents to buy luxuries.

Acceptance of corruption
by chatter on Mar 14, 2011 08:01 PM

Corruption is not the problem. It is the acceptance of the same by all of us. The day all of us stand up against corruption it will end.But then, when someone like our own Prime Minister does not show the guts to stand up to it, what can the rest of us do ?

India Growth
by Vir Kaul on Mar 14, 2011 07:28 PM  | Hide replies

Basic problem in India is not curruption but some thing else. Like for example a person is not able to feed his family is not able to give education, health care etc. The basic problem is that he is poor. Similarly in India the basic problem is there is no governance. India haS 619 districts. The civil administration of all the districts is headed by an IAS officer. Name me just six districts where one can walk into the office of the DC and get the job done in a reasonable period of time. If we can solve this problem of non- governance we can grow at a much faster rate.

For this the mindset has to be changed and to change it everywhere it should be written SERVANT OF INDIA rather tha Govt. Of India. This will show these arrogant servants what they are and whom they are supposed to serve.

With less corruption, India can grow over 9%
by Hebbar R on Mar 14, 2011 05:26 PM

For the aam aadmi growth is not an issue. In reality 9% growth is something great only to the "pseudo economists". There is wanton destruction of the ecology even to achieve the growth that the fudged figures of the Govt are showing. In any case, growth means nothing if the aam aadmi has to keep struggling to make ends meet and if his incomes do not support the minimum aspirations of him and his family.

But, growth apart, if corruption is removed, it will certainly leave more money for development and social obligations of the Govt. Better, education and health care could be a reality. The general life of even the aam aadmi will be better. Ironically, if the politicians take the lead in ensuring this, they need to not take the route of corruption to get re-elected, they need not nurture specific vote banks.

rather than a political change
by kabir on Mar 14, 2011 05:22 PM  | Hide replies

India needs judical and beurocratic reforms. In india all the political parties are two sides of same coin. nothing will change unless the judiciary and beurocracy is kicked on ass and make them work. It takes years to get simple verdict. People have become fearless as they have realized that nothing can happen to them. Beurocrates have become ineffecient and currupt. They want their salaries without work and plus the bribe money. Indian judiciary, lawenforcement, media, beurocracy has been prostitutionlised by one caste! They sleep with anyone who has money.

Yes, but before that India needs Political reforms. There must be a system in place where by only right people can get elected. When that happens all else will fall in place.

Corruption will be eliminated - you like it or not.

All these years, the corrupt big powers-to-be required the help of corrupt people at lower level for money to flow to them and to keep aam admi under control. With technology so advanced now, they can now control people using digital currency, RFID, latest advanced weaponry and mind control technologies. It now makes sense for the big powers-to-be to eliminate corruption and the power of the corrupt at lower level. It is of no use to them anymore.

Corruption should be eliminated, but on the terms of aam admi. Letting tyranny rule future generations is adharma of the worst kind. The bigger evil needs to be tackled on priority basis. Awareness is the key. Know more about the agenda of New World Order elites. It is all in the open. All that is required is, to have an open mind and reasonable judgment capability.

how can reduced corruption increase growth-rate?
by viswanatha seshadri on Mar 14, 2011 05:00 PM  | Hide replies

corruption incomes are also put in banks, used for expensive purchases etc. which are counted in for calculating overall growth of incomes, sales etc.

corruption merely transfers wealth from really deserved targets to other undeserved ones.
overall wealth not affected.

increase of corruption has the effects of

i] increase of black money in foreign banks over white money in our own banks, investments.

ii]. increases the national economic distortion, represented by the ratio of the super-rich per-capita incomes of the top 10% over extreme-poor, forming the bottom 50%.
