People in India dont deserve any better than all this stink. A classic example is the way people treated TDP leader Chandrababu Naidu after he did so much for the city. It may be true that rural public was unhappy with him, but if even the city of Hyderabad votes Congress, there is something wrong with the thinking of even educated, urban middle class public that lives in cities. In my opinion, public in India irrespective of caste, education, religion, age or gender, are just jealous animals. If the people in slums see middle class prospering, they wont waste a minute to spoil the party and vice versa. Karunanidhi has done so much for poor slum dwellers in the city of Chennai in the last five years, but I suspect that middle class will surely vote him out this time as slum dwellers are less likely to go out and vote after enjoying free TV sets and high quality food rations at low price.

In short, politicians who do good are forgotten (even by the sections that get the most benefit) while the politicians who do bad are always remembered by the electorate. It is exactly opposite of what our scriptures teach us - Forget the harm done to you by others but remember the good deeds they did for you.

Indian Thinking, Planning and Disaster Management Preparedness
by anuradhakumari on Mar 15, 2011 09:32 AM

A countrywide discussion on the Topic "Indian Thinking, Planning and Disaster Management Preparedness" should and must be conducted by Gov., NGOs, Responsible Pvt. Cos. etc.

All in India knows the quality of Construction, the bylaws, the rules etc. when the real Estate sector dealings are shrouded in Controversies, Corruption etc. When the free, open spaces, gardens, school playgrounds are very tactfully and shrewdly converted in Building, Parking Malls etc. Green spaces in cities are shrinking day by day with no REAL worry from any quarter......
What if someday, a high magnitude earthquake like that of JAPAN occurs in India, WE INDIANS MUST THINK --------
WHO WILL WEEP, WHO WILL BE WIPING WEEPING FACES

In the land of scams and corruption, every INDIAN must think this at least for some moments regularly....

Urban Development in UP: don't do kidding dear
by ashutosh gupta on Mar 15, 2011 04:51 AM

May be the author looks UP through the eyes of Noida that is why he feels that UP is having urban development under the current CM.

He needs to travel to UP beyond Noida and Lucknow and then he would give second thought before making such ridiculous comments.

In Varanasi, no single flyover was there. It was planned many years back. No one knows when it would be completed. Let the author visit cities like Varanasi and then he would realise what traffic congestion is called and what actually encroachment means. Life just moves there somehow. and forget about the dirt that seems everywhere.

and further it gives a bad name to the city since it is mostly visited by Foreigners and other state pilgrims.

One should not write anything unless he has thorough knowledge of the subject.

This is root of the problem.. Chalte Jao spoke this out of frustration and more love for mumbai than you probably do. I live in Mumbai for 2 years and I left vowing never to come back to this city of squalor and scum again. Loving you city is a good thing but you dont haven to be an emotional linguistic chauvinist
