Why PM thinks this budget meets all the challenges
by Hebbar R on Mar 01, 2011 10:51 AM  | Hide replies

It does not matter what the PM thinks. The issue is how he and his Govt has treated the urban midedle class, the Aam Aadmi and the salaried class. It is very clear that these groups have been given the short shrift. Increasing the expemtpion limit by a paltry Rs 20000.oo does not even take care of the huge inflation and the very high prices and cost of living. It seems that this man and his FM - and indeed his Govt - is just not concerned. To add insult to injury, he has started Service Tax on Medical Check ups. Criminal to say the least. It is the responsibility of the Govt to take care of health and the Govt has totally failed. Yet, when people want to take it upn themselves, he has the nerve to tax them. So much for the aam aadmi view to the PM and his Govt.

Next, except for lip service, nothing has been done regarding retrieval of black money. Setting up a GOM does not matter. It should be understand that the perception about the Ministers themselves is suspect. If that perception is really true, then how will they contribute?

Lastly, should not the Govt show something tangible to the IT payers for the hard earned money that they are forced to give away to the Govt. May be something in terms of health care, old age care, some kind of security atleast post retirement? If they get nothing, wht then should they pay IT?

Good assessment. This Govt missed the opportunity to do much more in spite of good growth. If they cannot do much now, then when? This Govt is least bothered about welfare of its people and interested only in the welfare of corporates and lobbies.

Prices rise because of Prime Minister
by prem menon on Mar 01, 2011 10:38 AM

one litre of petrol cost is rs 19 with 10% profit. one litre of petrol retail price is Rs 65/- that means Rs 46 going into different pockets like transport, multi service tax, central excise, customs duties, multi sales taxes etc., Owners of petrol bunks 95% were from congress- fat margins to congress bearers. Nehru given to congress bearers to own petrol bunks, steel agency, fair shops, fertiliser shops, cement shops. when ever the congress wanted money they used to channel all to black market. this is how the congress made total corrupted state.

PM's views on budget.

I fully agree with him. PM/FM cannot satisfy all common people but they can satisfy people like raja/karunanidhi/kalamdis/sonia gandhi's & many many other people. God save PM. Better leave the post & teach corruption & modes/ways of doing & escaping in any MBA colleges.

THE VERY THINKING IS POLLUTED!
by Indian Ullu on Mar 01, 2011 09:20 AM

Budget for every fiscal year determines the tuning of fiscal rules to make the economics of the country/people a balanced one within available resources.
There are innumerable points to look after in it.
Doing some and leaving many more is not a balanced and complete thought .
Because all members of the people dont understand all aspects so RAISING VOICE and SELFPATTINF on own back is TRYING TO FOOL THE PEOPLE!
The transparency and the WILL to do the MOST GOOD is lacking because congress minds are preoccupied with many cheating aspects!
Appeasements are ONE MOST IMPORTANT OF them.
Real needs are ignored !
TAX REDUCTION SHOULD HAVE BEEN AIMED AT -
its done ---
like 'throwing a few grains towards the birds'
raising IT exemption limit in general and for persons above 80 years is in terms of the needs LESS THAN 1%
WHO KNOWS AND WHO CARES?
Its a people unfriendly budget which an accounts degree hol;der could make!

India losing some 8,000 acres to Bangladesh...
by bango tango on Mar 01, 2011 09:05 AM  | Hide replies

NEW DELHI: India and Bangladesh have agreed to redraw their 4,100km boundary. Straightening of the boundary would include ending the contentious issue of over 200 enclaves located in each other's territory. High-level sources said the deal would be announced when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh visits Dhaka immediately after the West Bengal elections. The visit in all likelihood could take place in June.

The boundary deal would have been done earlier if it wasn't for the fact that Congress ally in West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, flatly refused to agree to any transfer of population that could affect voter sentiment in the state. At issue is the demarcation of 6.1 km of boundary, and a final settlement on the enclaves and areas under "adverse possession".

The broad contours of the border agreement reflects India's aversion to disturbing settled populations and exchange of territory. This essentially means Bangladeshi enclaves in Indian territory will remain with India, while Indian enclaves in Bangladesh will remain with them. This might mean a little bit of area transfer mainly from India to Bangladesh. The people would be given a choice to decide, if they want to be Bangladeshi citizens or Indians, sources indicated. "We are working out the modalities, but that is the broad guideline," a senior official said about the contentious citizenship issue.

Enclaves are small areas that are in the middle of another country. The straightening of the boundary would make for easier policing, and if necessary, possible fencing of the border. Many parts of the Indo-Bangla border is already fenced. A headcount is currently underway in the enclaves on both sides — 130 Indian enclaves in Bangladesh and 95 Bangladeshi enclaves within Indian territory.

A senior official said they believe "over two lakh people live in these enclaves but only the (ongoing) headcount will tell us the final figure". India and Bangladesh held their first boundary talks in November, when Bangladeshi foreign minister Dipu Moni visited Tripura. The two sides expect to meet a few more times before the agreement is sealed.

By straightening out the 4,100-km boundary, India may end up losing some land because it has more enclaves on the other side that would be absorbed by Bangladesh. "That is not a major issue, given the fact that it would forever settle the issue that has been on for centuries," the official said.

The 130 Indian Chitmahals (enclaves) occupy a land of some 20,000 acres while the Bangladesh Chitmahals in India occupy about 12,000 acres.

In effect, India would end up losing some 8,000 acres.
