Gi-mongous waste of scarce money
by Bodh Ramdeo on Feb 02, 2011 07:20 AM

There are many other swadeshi airlines which can do the job more effectively and efficiently, so why waste scarce taxpayers monies on this money-hemorrhaging AI???
The hundreds of billions wasted on subsidizing this behemoth could be better utilized providing basic services- food, education, housing and medical care for tens of millions of desperate, illiterate, hungry, malnourished, homeless and sick aam aadmi.
What a huge waste!

Praful Patel wanted to beat Kalmadi in the race as to who could make more and hence decided for 50000 crore order. After all every minister has basic necessities(food,house,..) and even 20% commission of 50000 crore should be enough for that.

In 50000 crore(infact much less) India could have easily developed the technology to make medium sized planes indigenously.

I hope future Govts(Congress is hopeless anyway) support local companies to make these otherwise high cost planes saving the hard earned tax payer money .

The whole purpose of buying 11 aircrafts in Air India was to make it bankruft, and then to dispose it off to Naresh Goel. There was no need to buy those aircrafts without first overhauling the corporation and having a plan to action to make it viable. if the management is not taking decisions to increase market share but at the same time is placing huge orders in anticipation, it's anybody's guess what the gameplan it.

Air India is a way to throw taxpayers' money down the drain
by Sachin Joshi on Jan 31, 2011 03:42 PM

With extremely high salaries and too much staff, coupled with bad services, Air India will remain a loss making company. Air India is on life support of taxpayers' money. It should be closed as it can't compete with private airlines who are highly efficient. And with fiscal deficit growing, this money could be better used elsewhere like building better infrastructure or improving agriculture productivity. This would help bring down high inflation.

The deal is not convincing even to CAG!
by karthik Mudgal on Jan 31, 2011 03:10 PM

The queries by CAG is relevant. An investment of the order of Rs.50000 crores requires commercial and financial justification. In absence of strong justification one can definitely believe there are consideration of cut-backs and commissions in entering into such big deals. It seems Congress Party and its allies are having good time in cutting huge commercial and defence deals which will put burden on the common man.

Is there any surprise with this question of the CAG? When there are kickbacks, more the quantity, more is there to be made.
