Other Reasons for losses.
by sachin shetty on Feb 10, 2011 11:28 PM

The advertising blitz accompanying new projects, the fanfare with laying the foundation stones for trivial occasions like computerised reservation centres or Sulabh Sauchalayas, followed by another gala programme to initiate the work in the same project, paying artistes in these occasions 10-times their normal fee to win their allegiance and the innumerable times senior railway officials have to shuttle between Rail Bhawan & Kalighat to get files signed are just some of the other reasons for the losses.

I am a daily commuter
by Sameer Agrawal on Jan 31, 2011 04:00 PM  | Hide replies

well, I am a daily commuter who travels to work daily by train.
and i can conveniently say that Lalu's times were much much better.
1. Trains were almost running on time. (I myself hd missed my daily train a few times after being late by 2-3 mins. These days, there is no schedule)
2. It was easy to get reservation
3. It was nice having a tea in kullad rather than plastic.
4. ticket checking was more.
5. the worst thing in mamata's time are "ladies special trains" which are causing big losses and wastage of resources. there are hardly 6-7 ladies passengers in each coach whereas gents passengers keep waiting on the platform for other train which gt late due to "ladies special". I am nt against ladies, but a better idea could be a general train with 2-3 ladies coaches.

personally, I dnt like Laloo, but my experience says that as a railway minister, he was lot better than her as far as commuters are concerned.

Can you please explain how the railways has made a profit???The railways has lost 14000 crores from passenger operations(in this year itself), about 25000 crores from the coaching department and earned only 2000 crores more from freight traffic. So, can you tell me how you got this figure of 5% profit. I would also like to add some information here:1) The Railways didn't pay Rs 5000 crores dividend in the previous year to the central government, it will not pay it this year too and has asked the central government to waive it for the next 6 yrs. So, please calculate the loss it is causing to the exchequer.
2)It has undertaken projects which it cannot fund as the railway reserves are at the least in recent terms at Rs 5000 crores only. I would request you to go through other articles if you don't find these facts unbelievable.

Abby,
The report says Railways have increased their earnings by 5%, not their profits. There is a fundamental difference between earnings and profit which you must understand before posting. Being Mamata supporter doesn't mean you will forget the basics. I am a Mamata supporter too but I'm not blind to see that she has been overlooking her responsibilities as the Railway Minister for a while.

Abby

Please read the portion where it is written "Expenditures have gone up by Rs 1,330 crore (Rs 13.3 billion) and earnings are down by Rs 1,142 crore (Rs 11.42 billion), taking the net deficit to Rs 2,500 crore (Rs 25 billion)".

Where exactly does the article say that expenses increased by 1% ?!!!

Thats what I wanted to say.In the article, the author clearly proves that railways has earned almost 5% profit last fiscal year(6% earning and 1% expense increased). But the heading says.."its making loss"...how contradictory it is.This once again proves that paid news articles are being made repeatedly to maligne Mamata.

by Devdutt Sen on Jan 31, 2011 08:07 AM  | Hide replies

there will be two great losses to west bengal;
1. the bengalis will go even lower in economic comparision with other states, as evident from Railways performance and her attitude towards industry and being bedfellows with maoists.
2.After seeing her nobody will ever talk highly of the beauty of bngali females.

The Bengalis don't need either Mamata or another term of Buddha. they are already into deep economic crisis. The work culture is at its worst which is manifested from the WC match being shifted out of Eden and the dirty streets of every city and town of West Bengal. Everyone is out for earning money without putting in any effort. The state will continue to limp while the other states and even Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa will leapfrog towards prosperity.
Nobody can save West Bengal. What Mamata has done as Railway Minister is of grave concern. Unless she is able to devote time, she should step down but it is unlikely. If we look at the ministers in LS, where are the performers? Sharad Pawar is the biggest failure. Praful Patel is so so, Pranab Mukherjee is not doing much, Chidambaram is making a fool of himself and MMS is a laughing stock as the most impotent person of India. This is the situation in our country and unless we reform the consitution, the judiciary and the electoral systems, we will continue to live in shit. Economic growth, GDP growth is all eyewash when ordinary people can't earn two meals a day through fair means.

Mamta is another RAJA, caused losss of public money
by manas kunal on Jan 31, 2011 07:32 AM  | Hide replies

Ground reality is even worse.... Hard to find reserved tickets on many trains even 1 month before, seems officials are busy to sell tickets to "dalals" for black marketing..... No control.... Mamta is waste and she is "decoit" looting whole country by not delivering her assignment taken over forcefully by her... This is also a type of corruption which whole country is silently watching.... She should be thrown out from the post and punished for not delivering her duty .... i will term her not better than RAJA, since both caused loss to the public money.....

Rail Budget
by ranjan mitra on Jan 30, 2011 11:21 PM  | Hide replies

The Rail Budget will be showing a deficit in its revenue earnings this year, since too many unnecessary projects have been launched and too many new trains have been put on tracks without any objective or motive behind them for the betterment of Railway services all over the country. This mindlessness of the Railway Minister should be put right by Sonia-ji, The PM & Pranab-da, otherwise it will be deemed that all four have chalked out a plan to capture Writers Buildings at the cost of the Indian Railways and loss to public money and security of public lives.

She is displaying advertisent worth few thousands (may be in lakhs)in news papers showing inauguration of computerised ticket counters with a function spending few thousands. The net target is to capture power in West Bengal.Let her enjoy the power no one resisting her .But who the painter is Subhaprasanna or Saoli Mitra to be in the railway consultative committee who are having no knowledge about Indian Railways. She could have choosen some one who is good railway expertirrespective of party colour. She lack of farsight is the net result of the possibilities that are echoed in news.
