Not correct way
by Gajanan Ganesh on Jan 19, 2011 10:29 AM  | Hide replies

When you are talking of wiping of corruption from all walks of life, then it is not at a correct decision. Now persons are getting huge salaries, the savings are normally invested in buying lands, flats, gold , shares etc. and the income of these is quite substantial which will not come into account while paying taxes by the companies as it will not be disclosed in general by employees.

im not sure what you mean. if someone doesn't want to disclose his income, he can do that today also. forcing someone to file returns does not mean better compliance.

I.Tax return by Salaried Class
by Sanjay Srivastava on Jan 19, 2011 10:20 AM

Exempting Salaried class from I.Tax return is a positive thought. It only involves unnessary paper work and loss of time with no net result . Afterall each and every peny earned by this class is crystal clear and I.Tax is deducted at source .

This should be optional
by bhaskara rao on Jan 19, 2011 10:19 AM  | Hide replies

This is a good idea but can be made optional. This means a salaried employee can choose to file a return.Because this is global era where you are required to show your IT returns when you are travelling abroad. This can happen to a salaried employee because he/she would visit to see their daughters/sons in other countries.

Not all Govt. Servents are corrupt. People in the scientific and acedamic field have neither
scopes nor interests in
'other' incomes. They do
most difficult and responsible work and much less paid than IT, and other corporates.

politicians and beauracrates will never allow this
by cskar maniac on Jan 19, 2011 10:10 AM  | Hide replies

this is avery good thinking and a positive step to eradicate corruption and black money-- atleast to a certain limit---,BUT BUT BUT our politicians will never allow this to happen.otherwise all their "earnings" as an MLA or MP ,cabinet ministers(aka A RAJA),will become useless and they will not have enough cash to woo the illiterate voter. e.g last election in TAMIL NADU cash was openely distributed to the slum dwellers and people of BPL. result-victory for DMK.

Do you even understand what is written in this article or the only thing you can ever think of is blaming politicians.
They are only talking about a proposal to exempt salaried employees from filing tax returns. Employees will still pay taxes but will just not file returns. That too if you dont have any income other than salary ie. no fixed deposits, no shares, no recurring deposits, no rent from house ..

the govt. servants are normally paid very much less than corporate employees equally qualified, experienced and holding equal or more responsibilities.

they, including the persons holding principal secratary to that of lowest paid group D servants, can be totally exempted from paying income tax on their salary portion.

that should encourage them to perform better.

more money does not encourage people to work better. there needs to be pay for performance. there needs to be a variable component in the salary which is related to performance.

govt 'servants' have 'other' sources of income ... even if they are exempt from filing there is no use since they are most corrupt in India

Govt employees get substantial benefits like large number of leaves, leave encashments, medical reimbursments, pension etc which are not there for pvt sector employees. Govt employees have job guarantee which pvt sector employees dont have. The higher salaries come as risk premium

Lastly a loss making pvt company will either layoff employees or cut their pay. Govt of India has been a loss making enterprise for last 60 years. How many paycuts have govt employees taken?

And yes I am ignoring bribes, just add them and figure out.
