Actually Idea and Vodafone made great losses.
by M Abdul on Feb 12, 2011 05:39 PM  | Hide replies

If you look at the massive TV campaigns of Idea and a more subdued ad campaign by Vodafone, mere additions of a few thousands are a fraction of what they spent for the advertisements.
I did a quick math for Idea : Assuming an ARPu of 200 for idea's new customers, the 12000 customer translate to a 1 crore additional revenue per quarter and with an OPM of 20%, this comes to about just 20 lakh rupees of revenue per quarter! I am sure Idea's advertisement revenue would have been atleast 50 crores worth. A big loss of money, considering the paltry additions.

Ya abdul bhai, it seems u r right but this article is the real dividend of our ad campaign, just look at the title. May be we didnt generate enough revenue by MNP, but please consider the new addition to our network and after these articles which are published in almost every quarter of media we are more than satisfied with the expenses we made.

Thanks for reading this article and write the comment

Mainstream media has virtually ignored the Kerala govt's

landmark victory in getting the co-promoter of the giant Cochin Smart city IT project to sign on the agreement without acceding to any of their demands regarding free hold rights over the land set apart for the project !

The previous UDF govt. led by Oommen Chandy of the Congress had worked out this agreement with M/s. Teecom of Dubai (who promote similar large scale IT ventures in several centres across the globe). However, Shri Chandy had also left the door ajar for the promoter to raise fresh and usurious demands once the agreement became due for execution.

It was this flaw in the agreement that Teecom sought to exploit after the agreement was formalised in 2007 during the present government's tenure. However, Teecom made a terrible mistake of not judging the sense of purpose and the strength of will of the current LDF CM correctly. They presumed that Mr.Atchudanandan would prove to be as malleable and as much of a pushover as Mr.Chandy !!

Teecom understood rather late and to its utter dismay that none of their tactics of protests, delays in moving ahead, threats of withdrawal from the project, etc. would ever work the least with the LDF govt. They believed that free-hold rights to 12 % of the 250 acres in the land in the heart of developing Cochin would be theirs for the asking though this was never proposed in the agreement at all. They simply followed the 'formula' being followed everywhere else in India by wolfish private capital to corrupt the

administration and muscle it into acceding to bending regulations and laws !

Now, the Kerala CM has not only succeeded in finally managing to set the much talked about 'Smart city' project on the road to getting commissioned but has also done it without compromising in any way on his initial stance that the promoter will enjoy nothing more than what the agreeement proposed !

The Congress in Kerala is now left swallowing the long series of lumps in its throat that keep forming one after the other (the ice cream parlour case has boomeranged on them in the cruellest manner possible and now the Leftist govt's success in the Smart city project) !!

The 'Kerala Mochana Yatra', being conducted by the Congress to purportedly submit a 'chargesheet' to the people against the left govt. has now forgotten all about the 'chargesheet' and is now very very busy explaining, explaining, explaining !!

Games mobile operators play to loot u
by ashish shekhar on Feb 02, 2011 08:19 AM

1. Activating caller tunes without your information. Specially to rural customers.
2. Charging from the time phone rings not when it's picked up.
3. Not cancelling your post paid connection even after your repeated request and keep charging monthly rental.
4. Activating services without informing you.
5. Giving discount (for special plans) at the time of bill generation and charging full unbilled amount incase the suscriber wants to cancel in middle of month.

Hope with MNP they will be forced to become more customer friendly.

BSNL only hope
by vidya sagarbennuri on Feb 01, 2011 07:18 PM  | Hide replies

All private telecom operators have entered market to earn. Only to earn & earn. many rural customers are illiterate. A call is received with a song with and announcement, suggesting to select the song press 1.. so on. Customer is confused and he presses the buttons involuntarily.Lo! instant deduction in d ammount. Its nothing but looting.. daylight..Remember Private bus operators never run their buses to rural areas. they run on Highways between metro cities making huge money. Its finally Govt , they provide service to the rural India. BSNL bills are transperent. Its problems are average age of employee is very high.

Wake up man. What on the earth makes you think that BSNL dont work (they dont work anyway) for profits? I used to have a BSNL phone in Calcutta about 8-9 years back and I noticed that BSNL is as dishonest as other service providers, if not more. They upgrade you to a higher monthly rental without informing you or even charge you for calls that you never made. And it is the same for Airtel or Hutch or Idea. At least, when you go to fight over a bill, they have better offices to sit till your turn comes. At BSNL, it is the same shoddy old building with 30 people standing ahead of you on the queue.

In fact, one of the reasons for BSNL's shoddy service also stems from the fact that govt is involved in it. While it is appreciable that govt provides services to regions where it does not make business sense, the fact is that BSNL tries to squeeze it back from the urban customers. If govt is serious, they should simply liquidate its stake from BSNL (sell it off) and force all major telecom players to offer services to underdeveloped regions in return for market in cities. This requires a strong regulatory body that does not dance to the telecom minister's tunes because they may play games between rival businesses while sharing regions - depending on who contributed how much to the party fund before elections.

by Gulab on Feb 01, 2011 07:10 PM

read my story...i had a corporate connection of postpaid, bill amount was coming around 1200-1500 every month, just to test I didn't use the whole month of DECEMBER, and my December bill that came in January had 1300 as outstanding amount....on close inspection, they only had reduced the monthly rental of 150 rupees from 299 rupees...I threw the sim card and took a prepaid connection...even if telecom minister comes and ask to pay the bill also, I won't pay them...decided...

In long term only BSNL will remain
by Janarddan on Feb 01, 2011 06:55 PM  | Hide replies

In the long term, BSNL will succeed. All the private telecos are frauds who thrive on bribes.

Just think, who is the root cause of 2G scam ? It is private telecos. They pay bribe to scuttle BSNL.

A smart customer would realize this and get a sim from a private telecom and switch to BSNL soon after

RCOM,BSNL lose
by lOKESHA HN on Feb 01, 2011 06:48 PM  | Hide replies

The mere number of subscribers switched would not give any indication of loss to these companies as mentioned in the article.
As such for kind of hype created by idea and it's advertising spend, the Return on Investment(ROI) would be peanuts and the numbers ported in could never compensate the money lost for Abhishek. BSNL has not even spent a penny for this except for some print ads...

Whatever it is RCOM network coverage in cities are the best but all other services provided by them are the worst of all.
Not to mention BSNL..they are losers in all segments.

About Idea
by PS on Feb 01, 2011 05:11 PM  | Hide replies

I have a Idea Postpaid and a Docomo prepaid
But billing of Idea is worst.
From Sept 2010 till Dec 2010,I was wondering how my bill amount suddenly doubled.Earlier I was getting bill of just 95 to 100 rupees per month but suddenly my bill statred coming 250 rupees per month and my usage was the same.
Lastly I logged on to the Idea Portal and viewed my itemized bill.
I was shocked to find out that the other Tata Docomo number which I am having was considered as STD/Fixed line by Idea and hence pulse rate was double for calls made from Idea to tata Docomo number.
In the same itemized bill I saw the same Docomo number mentioned in STD and in Local number category.
When I called Idea Customer care,he refused to accept this fact.I talked to that executive by opening the portal and referring to that itemized bill. But he was bluffing that In STD and fixed line,he is not able to see any calls made.
How is this possible?
believe me it is true and Idea is fooling customers in this way
