basically corruption is the main issue
by Haatim on Dec 31, 2011 11:54 AM

and this is the main reason we need a strong Lokpal and Janlokpal bill.

The department granting the licence also regularly checks the hospitals regarding hygiene etc. The Fire department also inspects the same.

They take thier haftas and keep quiet. The loss is to the common man by way of life or horrible service.

People unite and support Anna Hazare

This is the power of Lord Shani during Saade Saati. No doubt about it.

Probably the person managing the hospital was responsible for the inflammable articles in the basement. So his case is clearly a negligence issue.

But the others arrested have no direct relation to the negligence. But yet they are in a mess and they have no control over this.

Preventable Inferno
by Bodh Ramdeo on Dec 28, 2011 01:38 AM

"Safety" is a cuss-word in this callous, backward, infernal land of filth and squalor.
Not just the owners and management of the facility, but all the babus at the various over-sight govt depts are equally culpable for this disaster, including the Fire Marshal..they all approved the operations of this facility which turned into an inferno of death and destruction for so many innocent folks.
But these arrests are just eye-wash..in a few months everything will be just honky-dory again, like nothing happened.

The holocaust at AMRI hospital should trigger

rebuilding Bengal by the Bengalis themselves With a new Govt. in power, it is time to rebuild the society & economy of W. Bengal.

Instead of continuing to complain about the financial mess left behind by the 35 year long misrule by CPM and keep begging Delhi for aid ( using crude political blackmail ), Mamata Banerjee should boldly demand that the :

1. Marwaris who have gained control of the economy of WB during CPM misrule, MUST start paying their fair share of Taxes including back taxes assessed by the State Govt.

2. Delhi MUST compensate WB for the discrimination against Bengal by the Gandhi - Nehru Mafia since the 1930s that has continued till today. This amounts to $ 90 billion, not including interest.

3. Use these funds to train & back Bengalis to start quarter million new businesses aimed towards the re - development of W Bengal and modern export - oriented industries.

I agree with you to a certain extent. The marwari commuity are outsiders and have no concern for the locals whom they are sucking dry. The community does not believe in paying taxes and run every possible illegal racket in the state depriving the state of revenue and also morally degrading the fabric of the Bengal society. Worst, lcal politicians have ganged up with some marwaris for small change. Something needs to be done.....fast !

Two wrongs seldom make a right
by Dev Gupta on Dec 27, 2011 11:08 PM

The Marwari owners & directors of the AMRI hospital are certainly guilty of negligence & lack of empathy for their paying Bengali clientele. But this is nothing new, since the turn of 20 th century ( during British Rule ) Marwaris of Rajasthan have flocked to Calcutta and Bengal to make money by hook or by crook, starting with the Birlas who started by adulterating Ghee and got caught by the British in 1905 ! But during the 2nd World War and struggle for Independence the same Birla and the rest of the Marwaris of Calcutta collaborated with the British to hoard rice and create a famine in Bengal which killed 3 million from starvation.

So why did Bengali politicians like the late Jyoti Basu ( CPM, Chief Minister for 23 years ) collaborate with Marwaris like Neotia, Ruia, Goenka, Agarwal, Todi etc. and even backed the EMAMI group ? Jyoti Basu and his gang of "bhadralok" pseudo - Marxists sold all the assets of Bengal, its rice, jute, tea, coal, iron, industries to the Marwaris for a song and for years accepted bribes like all expenses - paid summer vacations in the UK !

And what about the so - called Bengali Bhadralok, why did they not protest ? why did they not start businesses of their own ? instead of becoming dependent & slaves of the Marwaris ? In fact many of the Bengali professionals & so - called " intellectuals " willingly collaborated with the Marwaris for small kick-back.

With a new party in power it is time to rebuil
