existing retail stores in india does not give hope
by Aurobindo Nandi on Dec 12, 2011 05:13 PM

we have ,SPENCERs, BIG BAZAR, FOOD bazar and other retail stores operating in INDIA. Wedo not find any difference in QUALITY or PRICE in these retail shops . I think neither the producers of the goods nor the customers are benefited. The Politicians and the thinkers should see all the pros and cons before indulging further in the issue.

Indian Retailing Kings
by mortha rao on Dec 12, 2011 10:08 AM  | Hide replies

The articles affords the readers to know about the retailing power of Indians abroad since olden days. Some of these kings are either settled permanently in the respective countries or would have established multinational retail business ventures utilising the benefits given by the Indian Government. The threat looming large on Indian small businesses (Micro and small)by allowing the FDI in retailing is that these Non-Resident Indian kings would monopolise and drive the Indian Residents to desperation. This will lead India to a fully Capatalistic country leaving no room for the small industry to grow. This will ultimately bring back the inhuman ancient Master and Servent culture- the rich and the poor culture, with no voice to protest against the fleecing of the poor. FDI in retailing shall never be encouraged in any form in Indian market. Instead, Indian govt should encourage the MSM industries to organise a better ratailing system and keep the NRIs away.

M Prabhakara Rao, Kakinada

Non-sense
by One Liner on Dec 12, 2011 12:01 AM

These are too few and most of those owners are citizens of the respective countries and not Indians. And Rediff thinks this is a good excuse for FDI? You are killing the bread and butter of lakhs of Kirani and Kaka shops. Job market creted will be only for the graduates and above who are already are in good demand. This will further increase the gap between the haves and have-nots. Result will be uprising of people in the "Occupy WallStreet" style only difference being the protests in India wont be non-voilent. Politicians are under-estimating the power of hunger.

What around the world?
by Paresh Padhye on Dec 11, 2011 01:09 PM

Almost all these supermarkets are in third world / developing countries except Mustafa. None in big countries. Indians are known for their business acumen as well for their slyness , dishonesty and selling sub-standard / second-and . Thats the problem when they want to expand their businesses in first-world countries like US, Germany, Japan, other Europern countries etc.

@why no govt floated VENTURE Fund - 10 billion dollars
by rama anne on Dec 11, 2011 08:57 AM

I have not seen a single INDIAN asking why Indian govt float a 10 BILLION venture fund in SUPPLY CHAIN LOGISTICS
========
We have 550 tonns of Gold bullion with RBI
we also have 330 billion Forex reserves as well
----
we can sell a small percentage of Gold - say 1-2 billion US dollars
add 8 Billion us dollars from Forex reserves
make it a 10 billion us dollars venture Fund - PUBLIC(Govt)

Retail KINGS?
by Truth BeTold on Dec 11, 2011 07:40 AM  | Hide replies

I hadn't even heard of them until today. Regardless, if Indians are going out and doing business in other countries, others should also be allowed to do the same in India.
