Destabilise Air India in order to benefit private Airlines
by abhishek mawle on May 05, 2011 01:38 PM

Who is the government trying to fool, if the government tries to shut down Air India. We the people of India will shut down government. We know how systematically government is trying to dsynfunctionalise Air India by selling high occupancy routes to private Airlines, not hiring crew members when they are badly needed and not hiring Pilots when aircrafts are lying on tarmac for years together for which we the citizens of India are paying huge taxes. We will send to jail Praful Patel and all the other corrupt politicians and bureaucrats, Jai Anna Hazare. Government want to destabilise Air India in order to benefit private Airlines since they already operate as a cartel, to loot the people of India.

air india
by Krishnan P.R on May 03, 2011 02:52 PM

The primary inefficiency of the airline is due to the government attitude and aviation ministry is totally working for the some private airlines (check Radia Tape). If the Government takes a right attitude towards Air India this can also be a profit making business. Air India should given a right time slot in all the profit making routes but on practice it is opposite.

AI: national money drain
by Bodh Ramdeo on May 01, 2011 11:34 PM

With so many efficiently run private domestic airlines, the need for a "national" taxpayers subsidized airline defies logic- it is as necessary as hole in the head.
This money-hemorrhaging behemoth is a huge sink-hole for scarce taxpayers money- it has never, nor ever will, post a profit.
The hundreds of billions wasted on this failed "enterprise" would be far better spent on providing desperately needed basics for the long-neglected starving, poverty-stricken aam aadmi, such as education, housing, water, electricity, sanitation...the list is endless.

Time to disolve Air India.
by Tom Dick on May 01, 2011 08:09 PM  | Hide replies

I guess both the government and the pilots are wrong here. The government should have thoughtabout salary and benefits issues of all staff before the merger. You cannot have two different wage level in one company. That is if what the pilots says is true. Now the pilots and other staff has a huge responsibility. It is their bread and butter they are playing with. They also should realise that they have been compensated by not only the revenue earned on ticket sales but also by the tax payer. Since the revenue earned is less than the expenses, it is the government (Tax payers money) is paying their wages. So the pilots should not be holding the nation on ransom. The government should use this opportunity to sell off Air India and the proceeds shouldgo to the exchequer. Unfortunately the tax payers have no say in running the country.

Do not blame the wrong person

Praful Patel just like Kalmadi and Raja should be in jail. He must have taken bribes to destroy Air India and Indian Airlines. He has taken off Air India flights from most lucrative routes and replaced these by KingFisher, JET Etc Etc Airlines. Because of him AirIndia is having massive losses.
Pilots demands ( equal pay for equal work) is perfectly justified. Indian media is corrupt; Indian Journalists are in the payroll of the business community who must have shared the bribes taken by Praful Patel.

The author is wrong. Public transport is essential and in every country it gets public subsidies. It also saves money for the public. If the Government officers got to travel by private airlines and stay in private hotels, it costs the tax payers many more millions. Private sector is only for profit. Private airlines charges doublt compare with public airlines and do not want to go to the remote areas. Airlines is essential for the Eastern Indian states, where there are no railways. It is also essential to avoid lawless states full of thugs like Bihar, UP, Jharkhand.
When Thailand can have excellent public Airlines, why is it impossible for India to have a good efficent public airlines?

Not possible for India because of the employees. Striking for anything and everything is criminal. Air india is making losses, employees instead of supporting the company at this crucial juncture it is strking to kill the airlines. They are want to live on other people money. Shame on you. You can demand more salary when you company is doing good. not when it is on the verge of bankruptcy. death to inefficient corrupt ministers to take out profit making routes from air india.

by Tamil Lover on May 01, 2011 04:50 PM  | Hide replies

YES the pilots are holding the people for ransom. They are going AGAINST the people of India. Anybody who makes comon man suffer is against the nation. So he is antinational. Why shd India provide them job. Either they shd be thrown away from the country or put them in jail for life or hang them. All their property including their family property shd be ceased and distributed to poor.

Pilots are heartless. They striking against a loss making company. Pilots are like any other worker. Just listen to your management and your bosses. Dont act you as if you are too smart.

Soon air india should be sold to jet or back to tata. inefficient, striking, incapable pilot-worker shd be dismissed.,We all know what kind of service air india provide with bunch of people like you.

Pilots are justified. There should not be any discreminations against the former Indian Airlines pilot. They are not any inferior to the AirIndia pilots. This is the issue.

No Air India? What will the politicians, babus do
by Ramadas on May 01, 2011 01:15 PM  | Hide replies

With Air India out, politicians will have no airline to wait on them. They will have to find a way to bully private airlines.

It is time to make it clear to politicians that they are there to serve the public. Not the other way round. Not bully airlines for free rides for themselves and their families at the expense of the taxpayer. CAG should do a probe into how Air India got into its financial mess.
