Petrol Rs.200/-, Rice Rs.200/- per kg. vegetable Rs.100/- per kg. Milk Rs.100/- per litter. Turdal Rs. 400/- per kg.

Kalam

Kalam Sahib though you are very honest and intelligent but nothing will happen till we bring drastic political and administrative reforms to suit todays requirment, our system is not even ready to have common constitutional consensus on corruption, population, employment, terrorism etc.,

OFF THE MARK
by rajesh kumar on Apr 30, 2011 01:28 PM

i respect kalam, but here he is completely off the mark i mean growth rate and GDP are very elusive measures to measure the progress of our country,if india is showing high growth rate then y still huge chunk of indians are poor?to be a developed country the growth should b inclusive rather than focusing only on bangalores, bombays, delhis etc.i am not pessimist but rather realist india will b developed by 2030(or may be 2040 and only when we do our best and do some radical reforms in our society) but 2020 is very unrealistic for sure.

Yes we can

Kalam sir is right. We can easily acheive this goal but it is not easy as well. It is a matter of one change of government and everything will be back to square one. Just think, if Communist party or BJP forms the next government then it is as good as economically going back another 20 years.

useless optimism
by A P on Apr 30, 2011 01:13 AM  | Hide replies

there is no such reason to be optmistic about india becoming econonomically developed by 2020. it will not even by 3020... the very basic requirements for development are HONESTY, INTEGRITY and DISCIPLINE and Indians are notorious for not having any of these ..

Indians have long blamed the foreign rule for the pathetic state that they are in, that's utter B.S!!! Nobody is responsible for India's and Indians' lack of HONESTY, INTEGRITY and DISCIPLINE .. these are inherent qualities which no one can take away..

Fact is Indians by default are c0rrupt and d1sh0nest ppl and this is set in stone.

I agree that by 2020, we cannot become economically developed and the reasons you specified are correct. HONESTY, INTEGRITY and DISCIPLINE....

Saying that Indians weren't so corrupt or dishonest since long time. You yourself can figure it out. Just compare the corruption levels between 30 yrs ago and now. Even about 15yrs back, the corruption levels were not so widespread. The Gandhi(borrowed name) family to stay in power, they are feeding corruption top down. they are encouraging/forcing everyone to be corrupt. Just take the latest protests by Anna Hazare. The govt (Gandhi family) is not in a mood to accept to question politicians for anything wrong they do.

u'r wrong. corruption was as rampant 15 years ago as it is now, the only difference is , 15 years ago, the media was not so agressive and acess to information was difficult ..as i told u, corruption has been a part of India ever since the world has existed.

In essence, more corruption in India started about 15-20yrs back.

I'll try to give example...

Since last couple of decades, the inflation rate is much higher compared to 20-40yrs back. It is not due to shortage of food and other essentials, but politicians, beauraucrats, middlemen etc together are creating scarcity and hence we see sudden rise in food prices etc and hence the inflation. Why our grandparents say their time was much good to lead a happy life though currently we have much better opportunities?
