it is not understood, why india having some of best natural beauty(j&k,hp,uc,kerala),palaces& monuments(raj, kar,up,mp),beaches(goa),temples, etc.,luxury trains, democracy,a yes nation for the west,is lagging behind @ 41st position out of the leading tourist attracting 50 countries of the world. whereas china which is an autocratic(poor human right record)country, attracts 10 times more foreign tourist than india(56 million against india's 5.6 million). i have been to china in 2007,its palaces stand nowhere to ours. yes its infrastructure is much better than ours, but overall i feel there is more to see in india. as per wikipedia in 2010,57 million chinese tourists travelled abroad, & spent more in buying spree, being only 2nd to americans.the question now is how does a country with dictatorial tendencies, allow 57 million of its citizens to go abroad. it appears that chinaphobia led by usa/uk/india has not been successful in preventing foreign tourists from going to china.

India should promote poverty tourism. India being one of the poorest countries in the world, tourists may be attaracted to visit it to have a glimpse at some of the heart wrenching, poverty laden living conditions anywhere in the world. The added advantage is that nowhere in the world one can find an oppurtunity to look at extreme poverty and that too at such a larg scale!

When tourists come to India they go mainly to the states: Rajasthan, UP (Taj, Fatehpur Sikri, Varanasi), Bihar (buddhist places), Delhi, Himachal, and Uttarakhand. No one comes to Slumbai for tourism. But rediff shows GAte Way of India in the photo. This is unfair...

Maharashtra attracts second highest number of foreign tourists. TN is the number one State in attracting the foreign tourists . TN and Maharashtra has dislodged the traditional Indian tourism hotspots such as Goa, Kerala, Rajasthan etc. In domestic tourism AP is having the No.1 position.( Source: Ministry of Tourism, Govt.of India)

my dear khemaji, the tourist figures of AP consists mostly "tirupati" darshan.tirupati is india's single biggest shrine darshan temple/site. foreign tourists prefer the "golden triangle" i.e delhi-agra-jaipur;kerala,goa,rajasthan,h.p.tn & maharastra are nowhere in attracting foreign tourists, in domestic tourism circuit,tn is much higher placed as indians being religous minded visit the numerous temples of tn.
It's really a costly affair to travel India. For Indians themselves it costs like hell to travel within country. In fact, it's cheaper to travel abroad.

Surprise, how Rediff shows India at 6? In it's article shows that India holds 41th position. And, it says top 10 tourist destination countries but after 6, it stops.. lol
