people who have commented below, you represent the "duffer youth" of India, it is not the perception of west that 17% indians are thriving, this is what indians feel about themselves...
you guys are so illetrate and incompetent to even comprehend an article. These results are based on what Indians replied in the survey, so this is what indians really feel about their condition...haha!

agreed, i here from finns that they 16-17% unemployment rate which is very high as per there population.
If the population is lower does not mean they are happy. Who ever has done the done the survey are idiots and they must have taken an easy way out pop/GDP = happiness
Can you guess what factor really makes the Europeans happiest of all: 1) Climate: Cold, wet and grey skies most often , forcing people to spend lacs of rupees on beach holidays over entire life. 2) Colours : No colour in nature , none in festivals and none in clothes which are mostly black tents. 3) Foods : Acidic wines, Tasteless flat foods ,deep frozen sandwiches made of cheapest & unmentionable animal body parts and costly Bangladeshi made curry and hence finally beer & cigarrettes drive the youth especially the vulnurable females. 4) No religion and nor joy in human relationships - Gays takeover & Females go to Africa & Asia for sex. 5) Economics : Population growth negative GDP Minus , Debt 6 times of GDP , Social security funding drying up & currency going downhill. 6) Competitiveness: Being overtaken by smaller Asian countries each year by GDP and Growth. Being internally destroyed by Islamists from African colonies like Morocco and Algeria. 7) Marketability: Hand me down Swiss watch, unsold swiss chocolate , ancient coke and pepsi.

The feeling of thriving is a matter of sheer perception which in turn depends upon the things to which one attaches more importance. Naturally,Europe & America are most materialistic & believe in a materially comfortable/luxurious living which they do enjoy now & hence consider themselves as truly thriving than any one else.Theirs, with the habit of spending most of the earnings of an average citizen, are the best examples for the proverb-'contentment is a continual feast"Indians, perhaps,do not enjoy such a dubious feeling of ecstasy since they do not attach that much of priority & importance to the materialism, but more for the cherished values, which,of course,of late, are on decrease. And hence a feeling that they are really not thriving. To add fuel to this fire, poverty is certainly not under control, while in case of countries like Pakistan which suffer shattered economies ,people feel complacent with the two square meals & with the taboos of their religious beliefs. In countries like China where though every thing looks very rosy, people certainly suffer under the tyrannical rule of the leftist govts & naturally tend to develop a feeling of their not thriving at all. Factorisation of the issue is very complex & depends on several extraneous matters like the type of the govt, their constitutional liberties, style of life, customs, habits, priortisations etc.
