Memorable ads
by Anand Bhisey on Apr 15, 2011 03:18 PM  | Hide replies

I particularly remember two ads done years ago. One said "Zaheer Ab Bas!", referring to the cloberring Pakistan batsman Zaheer Abbas gave the Indian bowlers during a series. Another was "It was Sharjah, boys, not Harjah," referring to India's dismal loss in a tournament there. [I forget what years these were in:-( ]

AMUL is India's largest Food Brand, sales US$ 3 Billion !
by Joseph Purathur on Apr 15, 2011 03:09 PM  | Hide replies

Do you know, the AMUL model of 3-tier dairy cooperatives, replicated in 23 States of India, have more than 13 million members who own at an average just 2 animals (cow/buffalo), but providing them livelihood - no farmer suicides are reported from areas where Amul-model dairy cooperatives operate. GCMMF (the marketing federation of dairy cooperatives in Gujarat) which markets the products under AMUL brand has become a US$ 3 billion business. As there are no middlemen in the entire milk chain, from production, procurement, processing and most importantly marketing, the entire money is distributed to poor dairy farmers in the villages. There is no other livelihood avenue, as provided by the AMUL model dairy cooperatives, for farmers in rural India. The Govt however has forgotten Dr V Kurien who made all this possible (he was the first GM of Amul dairy, then set up NDDB, GCMMF, IRMA, Mother Dairies, IIL, IDMC,HPCL and helped hundreds of dairy plants in India; made India the No.1 milk producing country in the World, pushing USA to No.2. Does he not deserve BHARAT RATNA. People are more interested in Bharat Ratna for Tendulkar! What is more important, few hundreds in cricket, or livelihood for millions of poor Indian farmers? Do not forget, milk sector contributes more than any other agri sector to the GDP of India! What is more important, even after occupying chairmanships of several organisations, for about 60 years, nobody can accuse Dr. Kurien of any scams..no 2G, 3G.

Rightly said.
People like him are the 'silent' heroes. They need to be recognized for their contribution.

Well said brother. Tendulkar made millions by playing cricket, but he did nothing for the poor & the needy. He even tried to evade custom duty on his Ferrari car.Dr. Kurien is the most suitable person for BharatRatna. People sshould not indulge in such silly demands i.e conferring BharatRatna on Tendulkar.

WELL SAID. Such people should be recognized and streets named after them. They have done India proud. Cricketers like movie stars are just for entertainment, they are not Bharat-Ratna material.
