I feel that this passage drawing parallels to a cricket match and huge country with billion more cross culture population spread across. Dear Friend winning a match and running a coalityion government is different thing. Accountability is first thing which makes a system and then punishing the wrong doers which is called justice. My friend has given three examples of NDA ruled states but didnot mention about karnataka where corruption at highest level tehelka video tapes exposed corruption can any one tell any one asked what they have done. this so called people were trading miltary deals as they got chance to rule. when manmoham singh the longest serving prime minister with impeccable integrity is ruling who has send his own cabinet minister to jail and has asked all his ministers Mps to resign he is telling about captians. I strongly feel you ahve to brush your management basics and stidy some nice leadership books which focus in leader traits. with cross culture is a different thing

Sanjeev Nayyar, I know what you would be writing had we lost. You are lost in the age of TRP. The youth has started hating the media. There is nothing but "BREAKING NEWS". if dhoni sneeze it will be a "BREAKING NEWS". You do not even care for a persons privacy. You don't mind even going to the bedroom to increase your TRP. You put words into poeples mouth. Make them say what you want. I have perosnally experienced it.

Mgt Lessons and Dhoni
by Kakoli Banerji on Apr 05, 2011 09:49 PM  | Hide replies

I think we are just overwhelmed by one fluke of performance from Mr.Dhoni. A poor batting performance, tieing up scopring 339 runs, improper batting style are the hallmarks of Dhoni. Samarveera was clearly out in finals when yuvi trapped him. All of us heard Dhoni shout from behind the wicket -leg stump ke bahar hai- but Yuvi insisted on having a replay. result - the Lankan was decrared out. Not listening to team mates is NOT leadership. We also heard he did not go and inspect the pitch on the final day.

Let us not get carried away with the man who thrives on luck. The final victory was a stroke of this luck he enjoys. had he not been the captain, he would have perhaps not been selected beyond one or two matches. Overall, it is Yuvi, Gambhir, Tendulkar and the bowlers who have actually peformed. Gambhir two partenerships in the final were the reason we won. In summary, Dhoni lacks correct batting technique. As for leadership, decisions in such games are made by senior players together.

Let us admit India has far superior players than the world and its not just dhoni doing the job.
Thanks you

Your criticism is unfair and inaccurate. For example, you take one incident about Samaraweera and generalize it to indicate that Dhoni does NOT listen to teammates. Correct technique or not, he has been a very successful batsman until the world cup. ALL team members have vouched for his leadership, and confirmed that his attitudes helped them immeasurably. How would you know more than them?

India has done so well so many times under his leadership that it is far from luck. Even if it is because of some luck as you so pettily claim, then at least for that reason he should continue as India captain!

Dhoni promoted himself at No. 5 because of IPL
by Cool Mahesh on Apr 05, 2011 09:41 PM  | Hide replies

He had failed in all matches of WC. He was afraid that his valuation would go down if he had not scored enough runs. That is why he came ahead of in-form Yuvi.

Well written
by Suraksha on Apr 05, 2011 09:39 PM  | Hide replies

Nicely written article. Unfortunately the political class requires a reign in rather than an inspiration for things to change. Corruption and dishonesty are not a culture, but a habit. Cultures are influenced by changes, habits are only changed ground up by desperate drive.

The movement by Hazare is a step in the right direction. We need measures to set up quality in politics. Guidleines have to be re-estabilished a control line to let independent agencies perform on merit of their objective and politics be the guiding force of democracy.
