Nothing in the universe can substitute a book - a printed book.

A formal "granth".

However expensive, a good book is a book is a book for decades and rather centuries if good material is used.

Anything virtual would fail to make an impact that a book would make.

The resources used for the e- reader are not economical currently. This is more closer to generating more e-waste by the developed economies for consumption by the developing economies. News papers and printed Books are good enough for the next ten years.
