India's Cities
by p yuvaraj on Oct 24, 2010 10:26 AM

Cities like Chennai, Bengaluru thrive on State Governments' phillip being State Capitals. All their grand big projects are cleared in breakneck speed, while interior Cities face numerous bureaucratic hurdles even for minor projects.

What is needed is a leadership who can look through the whole Country and equitable growth. One who can look upon India as one human body. You cannot have one long hand and one short hand.

Indian Cities' growth is such. Growth in urban centres while mediocore to sluggish growth in other parts.

Agricultural production is not given prominence.

You can call me jealous, I accept. One of the reasons. But when I pass through potholed roads in pitiable conditions for years in Coimbatore, I cannot help but voice my grievance.

Is Booze allowed in Ahamadebad?
by Vaidhy Narayanan on Oct 18, 2010 06:09 AM  | Hide replies

I heard booze is prohibited in A'dbad. Is this true? This could be a show stopper to grow in western driven economy and overall in general (i mean attacting bring young talents within other areas in India).

I'm not being sarcastic here

Not always. Booze has become the enemy for growth for cities in Australia. Young people are not in senses 24 hours there in Melbourne Universities. It has become the nasty law and order problem there and where ever Aussies go like Commonwealth games Delhi.

Booze is prohibited across Gujarat but that has not deterred its growth...!!

People do drink at home and farmhouses on the sly...Booze is very expensive as its smuggled...!!

You have to be cautious ...they have become stricter...!!

@ Aditya.
You are right.

Always KEEP IT PROHIBITED. In Maharashtra we Social Workers are trying our best to Prohibit it.

Sometimes Politics Dominates.

My best wishes for Golden Gujarat.

Aditya,

I agree it has not hindered the growth but feel has reduced the growth rate a bit. I agree Gandhian principles, indian culture blah blah etc but end of day we are depend on western bosses and economy to grow our business. If Gujarat can be bit more flexible on booze aspect it will grow very well (read more western business) and reduce the competition going to Mumbai/Pune, increase Indians imigrating to Guj, Modi will become more powerful, so does BJP and overall the nation. I'm sure someone read this

Booze has nothing to do with growth and growth rate. Gujarat has proved it. Growth comes with crime while A'bad fares far better in terms of crime index. You will rarely read drunk driving hit and run cases from Ahmedabad.

@ Narayan

I would agree with you to an extent but looking at some of the ppl in India...they cant handle their booze so well...

Owing to the prohibition , Gujarat is the safest state for women and the only state where they can roam abt without any fear at any time of night...thats not common

Its ok even if we have to compromise on growth but bro...safety comes first...!!

Without booze , Gujarat has been clocking the highest growth rates for the past 5 years...!! That says everything...!!

I am not talking abt just cities but even towns and villages are very safe and development has been all around...!!

Hi,
I agree with you. Better to have slow, steady and planned growth of Ahmedabad kind of cities rather than rapidly grown dirt cities like Bangalore. Being Bangalorean I am telling this.
