Lakshya 2020 : Decongest Metros & Develop Smaller Cit
by Skewed on Oct 23, 2010 06:18 PM  | Hide replies

Dear Brothers, Don't loose your focus on any other issue ,just ask for Growth from Government Machinery especially in small cities.
1 Trillion dollar investment is required in next 1 year to build some infrastructure.
Many may not be knowing that India's 85% infrastructure development is yet to take place.
Ask for mere Growth , India will be on Top of all Economies. The only challenge we have is with China all because they have a large population base.

Let smaller cities be developed and big metros and major towns see the outflux of its population.

Let all big corporations think logically and shift their Head office to smaller cities. They can not remain guided by one policy and it has to be flexible and vibrant to accomodate new ideas. Their production/construction people should operate from place where they are meant to be . Many company's top production CEOs operate from Head office , Is it not irony. Shop floor people should work at shop floor only.

Let all Indians make the life miserable of Beaurocrats and Ministers to take India to a new level of Growth with no Inflation.

By the time the infrastructure will come the population will increase by 50% so things will only get worse.

Look at the power situation. In 80s cuts were unheard off in Delhi but are routine now. Same for water.

All this in spite of the infrastructure growth.

poor and islamic countries are towards end of list
by mohan on Oct 17, 2010 08:22 AM

No surprise. Most well-to-do and least populated countries are in the top list.

No matter how much India develops, the numbers will always be in adverse direction. India's development is non-uniform and (poor) population is too high.

I am surprised it came so high

India should have been somewhere in 150 because not only is there gender bias at workplace and home where men and brothers get more preference than girls but also women in top positions treat women subordinates very badly.

Other countries like US, Sweden may be bad in giving voting and political rights to women but they have treated women with respect and equal rights in their house and workplace. Even in rich and educated houses i have seen bias against daughters like not sending them to good schools and colleges, not sending them to trips on pertext of safety while in reality parents do not want to spend money on these activities for their girls, marrying girls as soon as they are 18 even in metros in rich and educated families, not giving property rights to girls, treating their daughters like outsiders after marriage, not supporting daughters if they have some issues in in laws house and letting them be abused by husbands,. The list is endless. In office i have seen deserving women not being promoted with stupid logic like saying a guy has to look after family so needs more money and promotion etc, or that they may not travel a lot because they have kids. Women are a bit better than middle east countries but i do not agree india is an equal opportunity place for women. I would not want my daughter to be born and go to work in India because i want a great future for her and to be treated as equal to man in house(which i will ensure at any cost) and office.

I disagree about 'not giving property to daughters'.. I think that's a thing of past.
Parents and brothers do give a lot to the girls. Perhaps more than ever done in west or anywhere.

I agree to all of your points except "not sending them to trips". India is not West , where a girl can keep partying till late into the night, Rape cases in India is far higher than in the west, So parents obviously have to take care and be cautious.

hello, I think you are an NRI. I totally disagree to almost all your points.Comparing Indian women with the west i dont know in which way we can compare them. For example I am in an mechanical constrauction & erection company. I do have lot of women engg working along with me on the site as feild engg but in india yes we have given them ways but still they are the same. Asking for equality means should be prepared for it in all the factors. Wether it may be mental or wether it maybe physical. In west people understood this fact so it seems to us that they are giving equality to women but this very part of the life needs to be understood by every Indian women only then we can talk about the counts so wait until. Our great Indian women get prepared for this.

In west, women are always considered as sex symbols contrary to what people in India think. Do you guys really think an attractive women can reach any top position in US. No way ..

not surprising..

India symbolizes everything that is "unequal".
let alone gender, here people are unequal because of the "CASTE" system , which is the foundation of this country. This the only democracy where everything is undemocratic.Very difficult for India to survive in the long run. The prime example being the Naxal problem that is staring India in its face and threatens to break it up.India'a entire history and existence is flawed, to say the least

Inequality exists because of limited choice. There was a time when getting a telephone connection was a privilege. Today, the same BSNL will grovel under your feet to give you one. When there is plenty, nobody discriminates. When there is lack, everybody would corner more of those resources for themselves. If you have caste based discrimination in some parts, there is staunch state sponsiored reverse discrimination in the South. Honestly, how many forward community people will even ask for a government job in this day and age.

What #112
by baski on Oct 17, 2010 04:38 AM  | Hide replies

Switzerland granted voting rights to women in 1982. They haven't had a woman PM. They haven't doen anything great for women. It took 153 years before women got voting rights in the USA. India had it from the first day of its existence as an independent nation. India has a very high percentage of women in the workforce. For a developing country like India, she has achieved a lot being a democracy. Wouldn't care much about this survey.

your argument is flawed.Voting rights etc come later. the very basic right is "The Right to Live". here in India girl child is killed even before it is born.

A girl is supposed to go into another family. The boy is supposed to stay in the family. Si, parents paid for the boy's education and paid for the girl's marriage. This has changed of late. These days, girls take care of parents better than boys.

Female foeticide is because of economic reasons alone. Women were not allowed to inherit wealth ... . How many are willing to come and boldly say they won't get dowry? Has any woman been denied employment/ educational opportunities/adult franchise/ ... because of gender alone?
It is not because of the constitution or government policies. It is pure ignorance and that is it. We don't jail women for not wearing Burqa. Nor do we disallow women from driving. We have equal opportunities for women in all spheres of life except in fields like mining and armed forces where women's health or safety issues are concerned. For a nation suppressed and misruled by invaders for over 880 years (Afghan invaders, Mughals, British ...), India has had surprisingly resilient women's population. We have close to 50 % of the women in the workforce which is remarkable indeed.
We have had Dr Najma Heptullah, Patibha Patil, Indira Gandhi, Meira Kumar, Sarojini Naidu, Vijalakshmi Pandit and any number of women rising to the top.

Killing female foetus
by Haramohan Roy on Oct 17, 2010 02:04 AM  | Hide replies

The way the Indians go on killing the female foetuses is the sure way towards doom for the Indians.

It is unfortunate that the government watches callously while the female foeticide goes on.

The government cannot watch over what every individual in this country does. It can at best enact laws and educate them about female foeticide. It cannot cure one's ignorance in 2 hours.

Let women marry women and show women empowerment.
by samudra blr on Oct 16, 2010 11:06 PM

The countries with lot of women empowerment encourage women-women marriages. In India also we should encourage women-women marriages. This will make women independent.
