Men behind top Indian tycoons' success
by raman govindan on Nov 25, 2010 01:32 PM

it is mostly the people next to the top who provide the momentum and the vision required to take an organisation forward. they do it from behind.

the top people have no time to reflect, organise, plan and engineer the development or posess experience and technical expertise.

most of the top CEOs from the family controlled firms and the ministers in charge of expenditure and revenue of lakhs of crores, have time only for polticking and interfacing with the other ministers and media. but under the present circumstances and political climate, it cannot be avoided, if the organisation were to develop and progress made.

if one who goes thru the few development in India, one can find only very few from the the civil services, financial experts or technologists finding mention or hitting headlines. they are kept at the tap and not on top and the politicians grab all the lime light. in case of failure, politicians throw the blame on the civilservice and the PSU heads.

we have to live with it until the attitude of politicians and public changes.

Men behind Corporate groups

This article has missed out on one of the best persons - Mr. Malay Mukherjee, COO of L N Mittal's Arcelor-Mittal group. Mr. Mukherjee was one time the Chief Materials Manager (about 25 years ago) of Bhilai Steel Plant, when I had the fortune to meet him sometimes.

Mr. Mukherjee got the best personnel from indian steel industry who helped build up steel plants out of scrap all over the world, for Mittal group.

Three cheers for Mr. Mukherjee.
