Use linux and other unix flavours .. U don't get nasty viruses etc... there are viruses.. but very few and none are capable of causing high level damage due to high file level security

You are right. So, most of these major installations like BARC / Nuclear plants use Mainframes which work on UNIX or some flavour, and never on Windows OS. Windows is just good enough for PCs due to its user-friendly GUI.

Time for a scheduled health-check
by Common Man on Nov 23, 2010 06:23 PM  | Hide replies

It is well known that very few govt offices have secure computer networks. However, critical facilities like BARC are always isolated from public networks for security reasons. So, if this virus has spread within India, it must be due to poor security policies (like allowing USB flash drives to be used at critical installations). Time for NIC to do a health-check perhaps !!

Government Sector

The awareness to IT security in govt organisations is really pathetic. I did a scan on my uncle's (who is a very senior officer in ONGC) laptop and found a ton of viruses. I asked him whether he updates his antivirus regularly. and his response was "I dont know I just connect it to my office network and I guess it must get updated regularly"

Most in ONGC actually does not have any work....
Most guys in ONGC manage just the trade...In and Out & Collection...

does not matter much if their systems have worms or not....
