I have an idea of how cloud computing works. What I do not understand is, why do independant software cos have to make their own softwares based on Microsoft's Azure platform? Why not have it on existing platforms? If a business wants to access any of the softwares available, does its investment into cloud computing gets to Microsoft for Azure, or to the software co that actually developed the software the customer wants to use? What exactly is the function/purpose of "Azure"? Hope its not another "Vista" or "Windows 7"!

windows azure is a platform for cloud application , like .NET framework for other java applications. Not at all new operating system
