Budge deficit
by Sushil Mehta on May 29, 2010 04:17 AM

Gita is right about the deficit being too large. Congress, however, has always been very cavalier about national interests. I bought some RIBs (Resurgent India Bonds) in 90s and earned very nice interest rates on those... felt very guilty, though, almost like I was stealing from the country. Congress never cared, though, and kept on squandering on freebies.

academic freedom
by raman govindan on May 27, 2010 11:29 PM  | Hide replies

in india most of the teaching posts are permanent. but still most of our teachers do not talk, or tell and present only what the text book says, are what society and the government approves in general that are not controversial. we have less and less of teachers who are independent but the few who are, take shelter with one of the political parties.

That is because if you say something controversial in India, you can get beaten up, professor or no professor. They don't do that in the US. Professors are professors, not suicide-lovers.

It is indeed heartening to see a Mysore woman professor to reach such great heights in the prestigious American University. A great motivation for Indian women to achieve laurels in the academic world. Congrats KC Shivappa, Mysore

Mr. Sibal you hearing this? See how Centers for Educations can still guide national politics. How educated people can throw light into areas that others cannot see. Our is a nation where uneducated are better off than the educated ones, no doubt there is so much mess
