I don't know about Mr Pokhriyal's imoact on the state yet, but it is a fact that the state was touted as a power rich state, based on it's potential hydel power. From that, to the current shortage shows some pretty serious slippages in planning. I also fail to understand this mania with damming up the gNga and it's tributaries, when the experience with previous hydro power projects has been nothing to write home about. The govt. has made damaging compromises to attract private developers for its hydro potential, with little thought to the long term consequences for its own, and downstream states. It's a diffrent form of blackmailing, which says I will do these stupid things if you donot give in to our demands for money. They shd have continued to invest in tourism and alternative energy, and the state would have been a model state. Trying to bring grid electricity to such a tough topography at uncalculated costs is plain foolish.
