Indian IT companies are selling 'consulting' (e.g law firms) and not 'software' to clients.
For e.g Infosys makes only 2% from selling software. And Microsoft employees more lawyers than software developers.

How long we are going to concentrate on service sector?
by dravidfan on May 17, 2010 04:12 PM  | Hide replies

In future, to tackle rest of the south-east asia and western countries, we need to concentrate more on product development. Domestic Products will drive the GDB in big way.

who will buy product, and if you try to sell any product, your employee will have a copy on his machine and he will bought by the competitors..and within a day your competitor will sell your product for a better price than yours.. Unless, the intellectual property is protected in India, we can not develop products. We do not deserve to develop products. We deserve, when the Video and music piracies are stopped. We have talents to build product, but we do not have system to protect. You need monopoly to succeed in business. Anyone can copy anyone' product today in India...

Who said there is no piracy in western countries? This is one of the challenges the whole world is facing. This is just an excuse. While stepping forward there will be hurdles on the way which we need to handle, instead of being stagnant. Form a regulatory body to monitor intelluctual properties/domestic products like how SEBI was formed to monitor stock market.

Monopoly is like cancer, it will infect the whole system. Eg: Monopoly will influence the government policies.

plz wake up from your day dreaming. dont try to be too optimistic about Indian piracies..this is beyond repair. we can only be Service slaves, not even having any iota of chances to be a product leaders... i can hire the person so easily who built the product. thats cheaper... Listen, without monopolies, you can not encourage the innovator. there will be n number of guys like you will keep talking in the future as well... but nothing will change...anyway, go back to your day dreaming...

If indian finance ministry wasn't optimistic about the economic policy changes during 1991(which opened the gate of globalization) we wouldn't be discussing in this forum.

By having an id "obama" you should not be so pessimistic. Remember "YES WE CAN" quote ?

hmmmmm, thats USA. this is India... and u raised a question, piracy in western countries... if someone steals someone else idea, it is easy to sue in Western country.. do google "Flash of Genius" . you know what I mean. thats what i mean by monopoly as well.. just because 1991 economic policy change success, does not mean that we can be optimistic...we live in the world, where everyone is a potential criminal, only fear stops them...but in India we can steal anyone' idea, there no one to control.. so forget about product building, be happy about Services slavery...we are known for that, and be happy about that, atleast that fetches some bread for some people..
