1. We are talking about inventing stuff and NOT acquiring stuff!!!! have u forgotten the acquisitions of mittal, bharathi telecom, tatas, etc etc etc?????
2. There are more billionaires in India than in China
3. Chinese FDI is so high because of their currency devaluation and nothing to do with its actual productivity
4. Almost all the Made in China products are either dud or fakes!!!

Finally, when you look at the innovativeness of India or China, both are equally hopeless!!!

see one shud identify the diff between inventing "technologies" vs. "products". i don't know what technologies chinese and indians invented in the past 60 yrs. more over, these days even in usa, its all building upon existing technology..boring incremental innovations..not even inventions..by large groups of ppl inside huge corporations/universities - where no one person can claim credit for innovating. i guess the age of pathbreaking revolutionary inventions, as was the case in the early part of industrial revolution, is over (stagnant/if not dead). being kind to ur nationalistic ferver, i wud just caution u to not let too much false self-pride blurr ur objectivity.

Even if this study proves correct:
by anup kale on Apr 05, 2010 04:38 AM  | Hide replies

China and USA going to grow way ahead of India. And India is not going to get real domination. It will certainly depend on these two big brothers of world, especially security and related spending. Secondly when it comes to natural resources especially water, food, oil and mineral ores etc. we can invite big trouble for us. Then when it comes to research capability we need to work on many areas including our patenting and copyright laws, exploring research potentials, making time to time research priorities etc. Infrastructure is another mess in many metropolitans and future population rise in these cities is unpredictable. Population another giant enemy of this country which will grow alongwith GDP. So in long run if we are really looking for sustainable growth and prosperity then we need to do many things beyond inviting foreign investment.

Tell me any invention or product China has made. All Made in China cheap products are made by foreign companies in china because of FDI in China. And USA attract the best professionals and scientist from all over the world due to this it is No1 in research capability. All high skilled people in USA are Indians not Chines.

Dear Amit China has already taken note of this research issue. If you read IEEE research papers you will find plenty if Chinese Authors contributing. Apart from that in most foreign countries they got well set small business infrastructure, especially computer hardware. So even if they find one small product billions of replicas will be sold in near future. If as per you opinion best qualified and skilled in US are Indians they why so many Chinese names in US universities and research papers. Another area is patents, India is far behind of China, another area is defence China supplies to Pakistan, Shrilanka and god knows to whom. So why to take chinese research capability so lightly. Yes they are not Us but they are not India as well.

ever heard of lenovo? a chinese brand with a lot of global power. how abt TCL? Alcatel? Ok..may be india suffers from what u said...bcoz TATA is counted as a conglomerate holding powerful foriegn brands but not as a brand in itself. arcelor-mittal is based in luxemborg, not in india. what else..reliance, infosys, wipro..haha..forget it! Moreover did u say "all high skilled ppl in usa r indians.." , how terrible is ur ignorance? quite laughable.

Chinese are as hopeless as Indians in innovating stuff. Please do not give one or two products like lenovo saying they are highly skilled cos they made a junk TABLET or a NOTEBOOK!!! those are more of assembling units rather than a full fledged chinese product!!! the processor is still an intel or an AMD and the OS is still windows or Linux!!!! just because chinese made monitors, it doesnt mean they have become super-specialists!!!! it is akin to making every component of a car except the engine!!!!

you said "chinese are as hopeless"; then, why chinese own so much of money of Federal Reserve in USA? why NOT indians? then why chinese Lenovo could buy the IBM division, why NOT any Indian companies? recently Chinese acquired Volvo car company, why NOT any Indian companies buy Volvo? the problem with us (Indians) is, we always over-estimate about ourselves and under-estimate other countries; we always very proud about ourselves but not recognising the talents of other country people. Can you say any Indian brand laptops or computers that are being sold in other coutries? NOTHING.

Missed the crucial RISK
by Trivikram Singaraju on Apr 05, 2010 01:33 AM  | Hide replies

the draft cites "nuclear confrontation, unmitigated rise in carbon emissions, a breakdown in global economic governance and protectionism" as risk factors. though important, these factors donot have the capacity to make or break a nation. no evidence for this in the past. Throughout history, great nation states like Mauryan empire, Roman empire, Soviet Union, Britain, etc all fell bcoz of internal factors ("implosion" rather than explosion")..like social unrest (mideavel china/british india during partition), internal political/dynastical strife(kurus/mughals), religious conversions/change in social order (Rome- from paganism to christianity; persia- from zoroastrianism to islam). so one shud only ignore these implosive factors while making predictions at their own peril.

indeed true . the report needs to be politically correct to keep the arab world in good humor. the radicalization of islam and disproportionate increase in muslim population and consequent demographic destabilization is single most important threat india faces. unless something is done to address this problem india is going to be doomed.

India - 2050 - My god
by BRM on Apr 04, 2010 07:08 PM  | Hide replies

I am from Bangalore. Whoever saw the recent minucipla polls and the amount of money that wass spent by all political parties will know we are not going in the right direction. All candidates and parties are seeing the money that will be pumped in for infrastructure development. This is a small example of the rampant corruption prevailing in our country. If this is the situation in bangalore, one may imagine how is it in all parts of our country.
India will be a failed state by the 2025. Democracy, Corruption, Naxalism, Terrorism, etc will make this happen. I know several INDIANS will feel pain to read this, but they know this will be our and our children's future.
All these reports of India overtaking China and US and other countries are written by people who do not factor the problems we face. That is a problem.

Predictors of such reports KNOW it very well that by 2050 they will be NOT around to answer hard questions then.

They make us believe that we will be living in gold apartments in 2050 when our population continues to rise like a giant zoo

expect

shortages of LAND
shortages of FOOD
shortages of HEALTH
shortages of SPACE
shortages of WATER

It is FEARSOME to think about 40 years hence. MORONS live in time when they will NOT be alive while realists live TODAY and try to solve issues TODAY.

More care is needed to avoid another robbery
by Veja Biral on Apr 04, 2010 03:23 PM  | Hide replies

Historically, India is robbed by foreigners time to time bcoz of our poor defence and infighting. Now, politically we are one country and we have strong defence to deter any forein invation, so the robbers are finding innovative path like projecting us at top order if we open up everything for foreigners. But liberisation of economy is needed for attract foreign capital, but we should keep in mind that all foreigners are nothing but modern robber and deal with them accordingly.

haha what a FOOL but beta practice what you preach.

1. QUIT serving western clients , CLOSE down outsourcing
2. ALL Indians should QUIT their cushy jobs with MNCs.
3. Lastly ALL foreigners should be banned to visit India and ALL Indians settled in the West should return immediately.

A statististical Exploitation or a beautiful speculation
by Sandy on Apr 04, 2010 11:49 AM

i am not very much aware about the statistics but came to know from different article that.. there r some trics which help u to create the outcome at ur own favor............ and i hope this is is not the such kind of article.... based on this hope i have some doubt that we r talking in terms of growth rate we will be at top but what is the out come till we r lagging in terms of total economy...... & what ever value is diplayed is it effect all the citizns of India or it will be in hand of some capitatlist/industrialist and we will move up interms of volume economy but no/little impact on socio economy as we r seeing today. we like to dream good but that is the different world when u r speaking something thorough article.. it is better to clarify/mention the real truth not just spread the feel good factor among the "AAM ADMI"
